Ready to tackle 10- or 11-speed drivetrains, the SRAM Force CX1 Type 2.1 Rear Derailleur sees some minor improvements to the original CX1 derailleur, itself a cyclocross-specific version of the venerable SRAM XX1 mountain bike rear mech. New bearing seals and some minor weight-savings details makes the 2.1 better, but you can expect the same slick 1x performance as before.
The rear derailleur features Exact Actuation shifting technology. This means that the shifter cable travel moves at a 1:1 ratio with the derailleur movement, eliminating lag time while you wait for the next gear to engage. Coupled with this is SRAM's X-Horizon design which effectively limits all movement of the derailleur to the horizontal axis, thereby reducing the force placed on the derailleur with each shift. This "straight parallelogram" design means that ghost shifting is out of the equation. Finally the derailleur's 12-tooth pulleys and Roller Bearing Clutch control lateral movement and tension in the chain. Consistent chain movement means smooth and quiet shifting.
For the construction of the CX1, SRAM used a carbon fiber outer cage combined with a durable, yet lightweight magnesium inner cage. An aluminum b-knuckle is strong and lightweight, while stainless hardware resists corrosion. To ensure fast wheel changes, the Cage Lock design pushes the cage quickly out of the way while you switch wheels so you'll be off and riding in a flash.
