We understand that sometimes extreme terrain often poses extreme challenges. And for that, you'll need a range of gears that are suited to the task. SRAM ApexShifters are designed to work in conjunction with their 2 x 10 Apex road group. They borrow DoubleTap shift technology from the high end road groups like Red and Force, offering instant and smooth shifts, but with Apex, you can still have a super low climbing gear and a high gear that's stiff enough to mix it up in the city limit sign sprints on Saturday mornings.
SRAM's DoubleTap system relies on a clean design and simple function. In essence, you have two separate levers, one for braking and one for shifting, each doing only their singular duty. There's no chance for accidental shifts when you brake or lurching on the brakes when you shift. For the Apex levers, SRAM trickles down the best functions from the high end stuff. Just because it's budget oriented doesn't mean you'll wish for features out on the road. These levers have a reach adjustment that means no matter the size of your hands, the brake lever (as well as the hinged shift paddle) can be dialed in to perfection for an easy reach in the drops or from the hoods.
And as fast as changes in the road elevation occur, your shifting will always be quick and crisp thanks to SRAM's ZeroLoss functionality. As soon as you push the shift paddle, cable starts to move, affecting the shift. This is what makes SRAM's DoubleTap shifting feel super precise and instant. You push the same lever whether you'd like to shift up or down. For rear shifts, a small push of the lever releases cable (to put you down into your sprinting gears), and a bigger push pulls cable (to move you up into your climbing gears). It couldn't be more simple or elegant, and having ridden it we can assure you it couldn't possibly shift with any more sureness or precision.
The SRAM Apex Shifters includes both front and rear shift/brake levers as well as a full brake/shift housing and wire set. The lever bodies are designed to allow hidden cable routing for a clean aerodynamic look under the bar tape. The brake levers and shifter paddles are lightweight aluminum and are anodized Black. Given the unique design of DoubleTap shifting, please note that SRAM recommends that you use a complete SRAM drivetrain, including both derailleurs, cassette, chain, and crankset in order to optimize shift quality.
