Spot Brand Rocker Steel Single Speed $0.00
The thought of a steel single speed hardtail may evoke mental images of tradition and simplicity. But, if you look closely at the Spot Brand Rocker Steel Single Speed, it's sporting some unconventional and advanced tech under its belt. Well, actually, its belt is what differentiates this boutique steel hardtail from the herd. Instead of a chain, the Rocker transfers power via a carbon belt drive.
The Gates Carbon Drive CenterTrack Belt, found on the Rocker, has some huge advantages over a chain. One, it requires minimal maintenance. Where a chain needs to be cleaned and lubed nearly every ride, the belt drive needs nothing. Once it's tension is properly adjusted, it's good to go -- and for a ridiculously long time. Two, it's quieter. Until you've ridden one, you've probably never noticed that chain drives are actually quite noisy. And three, it's lighter. Rotational weight includes the chain and, the with a lighter belt, you'll enjoy eager acceleration.
This belt is also the new CenterTrac design; there is a ridge along the center of the pulley that prevents the belt from becoming misaligned. It has 46T front and 28T rear pulleys for a ratio equivalent that falls in between a 32 x 19T and 32 x 20T, perfect for mountainous terrain. The patent-pending Kobe Slider Dropouts allow cog/pulley change without adjusting brake caliper every time you need to switch things up.
When it comes to frame materials, steel will always have a place among hardtail aficionados. That's because it's light, lively, and reliable. On the Rocker, you'll find immaculate welds connecting its true Temper OX Platinum tubing. An optimized mixture of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium give this tubeset unprecedented tensile strength, allowing thinly butted tubes for a distinctive, fun-to-ride attitude.
At the front of the Rocker, you'll find a Rock Shox Reba RL 29 with a 15mm axle; it has 100mm of travel and a lockout for efficient climbing. WTB Laser TCS Trail wheels take care of rolling stock, with a set of WTB Bronson tires for excellent traction and low rolling-resistance. Stopping the Rocker is a set of Avid Elixir 9 hydraulic disc brakes, and finishing of its build is TruVativ Stylo T20 components for the seatpost, stem, and handlebar.
The Spot Brand Rocker Steel Single Speed comes in Pearl White and sizes Small through X-Large.
