Description

The X5 Road Pedal is among Speedplay's most economical models. It features the same user-friendly design and generous float options as the newer Ultra Light Action models, but with a less supple engagement, a few added grams, and without the benefit of Speedplay's Walkable cleats.

The X5 uses a chromoly steel spindle. They're built with needle and cartridge bearings to give them superior smoothness and longevity. The X5 incorporates an earlier release angle than the race-oriented X1 and X2—you'll need only a slight heel twist to exit, so you'll have no worries about getting out when you need to. 220g. Comes standard with cleats and mounting hardware. Compatible with virtually every road shoe in the marketplace.

Please Note: Due to manufacturer restrictions, we are unable to ship Speedplay products outside the United States.

Great pedals

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Used another pedal system years ago that everyone else used, thinking "if it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for me". As I matured in my cycling habit, knee pain ensued. Rather than using the same equipment that all the other "Cat-3 pack fillers" used, I stepped outside the box. They all said "those things suck", which meant I was no longer one of the lemmings, and definately an outcast. I have have nothing but superior performance with speedplays for the past 5+ years and I will continue to use them-period! Last month while riding with the girlfriend, she blew a tire and ended up in the middle of the road still clipped in. As a novice, she purchased the same pedals that I initially bought because that's what the Cat-3 packfiller/ never on a podium/ marginal wrench/ shop owner said to get. She'd been having continuous problems with her pedals and their release. The shop would not take them back, but was more than happy to smear grease on the cleat. I bought her a set of X-5's, put them on her bike, mounted the cleats and said "what do you think?" It was a short learning curve coming out of the saddle, but her worried of not being able to get out of her pedals are gone. As an added bonus, her knees feel better too. Nothing is a "one size fits all solution", like saddles, bibs, helmets, etc. I would encourage anyone shopping for pedals to give speedplays a try, and make your own decision with your own money. They have worked well for me and for others that I have recommended them too.

Great Pedals

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've tried the zeros, spds, and these pedals. The zeros felt too hard to snap into compared to these x pedals. The spds didn't feel like I had that much power compared to these x pedals. These pedals work amazing, I didn't even have to practice getting in and out, they just got in super easily.

Speedplay pedels

I commute to work 5 days a week. the pedals are suppost to be greased at least once a year. didn't know that until talking to a friend. grease yours before the bearing fails.

They are a great pedal as you can snap in from either side. quick, easy and fast!
