These cleats are the entry level ones of the Speedplay line but work so well on their pedals. Cleats click in securely and without hesitation. I use these cleats on Sidi shoes and I had to use an adaptor for them, which required me to use the longer 5mm screws. I recommend one to use the shims that come with the cleats and if necessary, use the adaptor plate. With the adaptor plate, the "stack" of cleats feel incredibly secure and safe. A lot of power transfer with these magnificent cleats!

What is the length of the screws that come with the cleats?
I need 9.5mm I believe to go into base plate.

No, the screws that come with the cleats are 4mm's. If you are using an adaptor use four hole cleats, you'll need 5mm screws.

New shoes , new cleats

Have been using speed plays for 10 years. The kit has everything you need when you replace your shoes. Perfect fit and adjustment for my foot shape. May be a little hard to walk on but you use SpeedPlay's for the cycling not a cross country hike.

Elective replacement after a little over 2.5 years. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. They've never let me down!

if you have speedplays and have been using your cleats for more than a couple years spend just a couple bucks and ensure that you can eventually get them off your shoe. Speedplay's are my favorite pedal by far but you can walk away the bottom of these if you use them much and end up working the metal surface down to nothing.

Seems contradictory info in the below Q&As.. Does this item include or not include the Speedplay Base Plate Kit v2 which is separately sold by CC for $10? And/or is the "Speedplay v2 Protector Shim" included (another separate $12 item)?

these do not include the protector ship

Newbie, looking to enter the world of clipless pedals. Speedplay X's were recommended by a friend as a good option. Are these cleats compatible with the Giro Republic (2-bolt cleat mount) shoes? If not, is there an adaptor? The only thing I was able to find on the Speedplay site is that they would work with 3 or 4-bolt and, in another place on the site, that they were compatible with "most" current cycling shoes. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

No, unfortunately. Giro's Republic uses the older Shimano SPD (two bolt) standard and would not be compatible with Speedplay cleats. Even if some sort of adapter is available, it wouldn't be a smart idea.

Do these come with the version 2 base plate...

Do these come with the version 2 base plate kit adapter and screws?

Yes, as stated below, Competitive is shipping version 2 cleats.

Confirmed: These are the new V.2 model

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Speedplay recently updated their cleats to improve compatibility with the sole curvature of current road shoes. For those curious, the package I just received contains the new model.

Cleats, what else.

they hold your feet to the pedals. Don't walk in wet sand with these, or they will no longer be your friend.

Oh, I wish they were more durable, but I also wish that beer was its own food group, so I wish for quite a few things that I don't get to have.

Would this cleat fit a shimano 105...

Would this cleat fit a shimano 105 pedal?

Best Answer

This cleat will NOT fit a shimano SPD pedal system. Bikin' Bikin' I believe you are thinking will the cleat fit a three bolt road shoe. Which, in that case, yes you would just need the Speed Play base plate to adapt your cleat to your shoe. But this cleat would not work with a three bolt, or road pedal. This includes the Shimano 105 pedal. Eddie, you would need:
