When was the last time looking at a pedal raised your pulse? The Speedplay Drillium Pedals show that platform pedal design doesn't have to be boring or mundane. They're the ultimate racing flats thanks to the details of their construction.

Speedplay incorporates three precision bearings (one needle, two cartridge) into each pedal for durability and smooth operation. In fact, the bearings spin on monster 12mm spindles that are purposely made for all the force you can produce in an A-main gate start or a harsh landing over the doubles. But what good would smooth bearings be without proper maintenance? The built-in grease port makes this easy since routine lubrication doesn't require any disassembly.

A huge concave platform provides ample surface area for transmitting power to the rear wheel and the replaceable pins (20 of 'em in each pedal) will help keep your feet exactly where you plant them. At first glance, the Drilliums seem bulky and heavy because of their platform size, but those aren't cooling holes for re-entry -- they're an old school and effective way to keep the weight to a bare minimum.

The Speedplay Drillium Platform Pedals have a hard-anodized Black finish with laser-etched logos.

Year Later, Still Strong

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

My plastic pedals that came with my Specialized Sirrus wore out and became really slick. I wasn't ready for clipless so I gave these a try. They are great for my large feet (US 13) and have been used in all weather conditions, short commutes, and 50+ mile road rides, and off road.

I find them really comfortable and my shoes always stay well gripped to the them no matter the road conditions. If you don't want to commit to clipless or want some large pedals for commuting around, I can't recommend these highly enough.

Awesome product

I have these pedals on two of my bikes, a Surly Disc Trucker and a Surly ECR. I am about to purchase another pair for my new Surly Troll. These pedals are awesome. They have held up to some really nasty days on the trails with the ECR and thousands on miles on my disc trucker. These pedals look sweet, allow all shoes to grip them, and are a little on the pricey side. The price point is probably why there are not many reviews here for this product but do not let that fool you.

Great platforms!!!!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These stick to your shoes, amazing grip. Big pedals. I've been on the fence about going clipless for a while though and I'm finally going that way so in the end these aren't for me.
