Why We Like The Trace MIPS Helmet
Smith's road helmet lineup has never been one to disappoint, and this year is no different, with the bar being moved a little higher once again with a new helmet in the mix — the Trace MIPS Helmet. This pinnacle helmet in the road collection features all of the tech you would expect from Smith, like its Koroud protection that fully surrounds the helmet to provide next-level protection, while teaming up with internal air channels so intake as much air, and keep your scalp feeling cool when you're challenging yourself up new climbs, and soaring down canyon roads. The Trace features 18 large vents that are strategically placed to create an intake and exhaust system, pulling cool air in, and giving it a quick escape in the back. And because those long rides also mean varying lighting conditions, Smith builds the Trace with an AirEvac system that works to keep your shades fog-free while riding, and vents that neatly secure your glasses when you need to take them off after dusk falls.

Good Protection
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:

I bought a second one for my son after using one for over a year. It is easy to adjust for fitting, has very good ventilation, is light weight, and works well with sunglasses. Seems it is more comfortable that lower priced, older helmets that I have used.

Fits extremely well, very adjustable.
Fits extremely well, very adjustable. Airflow could be better, but it never feels overly hot even on the warmest days.

Great helmet
Excellent fit. The chin strap design solves the irritating problem with older designs where the straps rub your ears. I am very pleased with the helmet.

So close to greatness, yet so far...
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Ahh this helmet. It looks great -- good looking and well built, has multiple safety technologies built in, has a great fit out of the box and the fit adjustment is great too. It has a full coverage shell which I like as well. The hi-viz colorway is great. So many things to like about this helmet. But there is no padding on the mid-to-back underside of the shell that sits right on the top of my hairless head, maybe because of the MIPS insert. So the hard foam sits right on top of my head and gets compressed down into my head when the helmet is tightened. I could tell that is going to hurt on a long ride, so I had to send it back. I'm bummed, this helmet was so close to greatness but Smith dropped the ball on the padding. If Smith comes out with a new version of this helmet that has full padding all the way across the underside of the shell, I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Great helmet

I was tired of getting bees in the helmet so this one has some protection, with its honeycomb structuring. I think the strap could be a little better for my shape, but that's very individual, obviously.

Runs Small for me
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- L
Just received the Smith Trace MIPS helmet I ordered in L and, even though by head measured 60.5cm and the L helmet has a max size of 63cm, the helmet was tight on my head on the largest size. Have to return it. 😭 I gave the helmet 4 stars because, even though it's tight, I love this helmet. Sad I have to return it.

Size guide not true fit
I've bought a Smith Trace helmet and is really tight around the frontal lobes. My head circumference is 57 cm which is size M according to Smith size chart. Measured the helmet on the frontal area and noticed that is smaller with 1 cm than my old GIRO. Unfortunately not able to return as the company doesn't offer return labels through Canadian shipping partners.

Looks, Feels, and Saves Brains Great!
Loved everything about this helmet. Fit, lightweight, and color. I chose this helmet because of the looks AND after reading about Koroyd and MIPS technology, I was convinced of the value. LUCKY ME for wearing this amazing helmet when I was hit by a car recently. After flying over the car, I landed directly on my head, breaking my neck. See the dents in the helmet that despite a direct impact against the pavement, I suffered no concussion. Thank You Smith Optics & Helmets. I WILL be purchasing another when I am back in the saddle one day, and advocate for the importance of wearing GOOD and Proper fitting helmets.

Comfortable & it works
I love the ability to perfectly fit this helmet with the dial system in back and it looks good - not as mushroomy as some helmets. But most importantly it works! I was recently in a crash where I went right over my handlebars. I broke my clavicle and scapula and banged my head. The helmet was dinged up and the foam padding split but all my CT scans came back clear. Had I not had a helmet or one that didn't fit so well, it would have been a different story.

Meh
- Familiarity:

Pretty pricey, though it does fit well. The biggest issue is how hot it gets. Never had a helmet that trapped heat like this one. All those Koroyd may be safer, but it comes at a price. Ended up going with a Giro helmet that fits better, is cooler, and feels better made. Smith nailed the looks on this one, but not the functionality.
