It's only natural that the purest-tasting drink mix would align itself with the 'purist' water bottle on the market. Yes, that pun was intended, but the importance of the Skratch Labs Purist Hydroflo Bottle is no laughing matter. Why? Because Skratch Labs prides itself on generating the abolishment of flavor-fatigue. However, until the advent of the Purist bottle, flavoring and trace residues permanently attached themselves to the inner-walls of your bottles. But, with the Purist in tow, you now have the ultimate vessel for the full Skratch Labs hydration experience.

For starters, the 'purist' in the name denotes an amorphous silicon dioxide coating that's infused into the inner-wall of the bottle. The silicon dioxide essentially forms a glass-like finish that provides a totally natural, and completely inert, solution to the problem of your drinks staining the bottle or leaving behind an aftertaste. The Purist infusion also shields your fresh water from tasting like plastic on very hot days. In fact, the goal was to make a bottle that's akin to drinking straight from a sparkling clean glass.

The silicon dioxide coating is a mere 20 nanometers thick -- for comparison, it's less than 5,000 times thinner than a human hair. We only mention this to assure you that the Purist coating does not affect the classic, and might we add perfect, feel of the Specialized bottle. It's able to be frozen or dropped on the road, as usual, with no ill-effects, other than you getting dropped from the group because you won't want to leave it behind.

We have this bottle in a 20-ounce version with the new Hydroflo cap and bottle shape. It features a self-sealing heart valve that's completely 'slosh-proof' on the bike, but when you want a drink, a squeeze on the bottle delivers a massive rush of water. However, you're able to pop the valve down for an absolute leak-proof seal for when you toss full bottles into your race bag. Additionally, Hydroflo features a new three-shape design that not only improves the actual handling of the bottle, but it also secures its position within your cage.

The Skratch Labs Purist Hydroflo Bottle is available in one color and in a 20-ounce size. Specialized recommends a simple rinse and dry after use. If you want to wash them, take care not to scratch the inner surface of the plastic. Alternatively, they will be fine on the top rack of your machine.

Careful - Picture Not Accurate

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I almost bought this until I realized that the bottle depicted in the picture is the 26 oz size, but what is on sale here, at least in the "12 Days" sale, is the 20 oz size. These are great bottles and this is a good price, but I'd recommend CC update the picture to avoid confusion.

Leaves a little in the bottle

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like the flow of the bottle, and the lack of residual smell. I just don't like the little bit of fluid that stays in the bottle at the end! Try as I might I cannot get the bottle completely empty when drinking.

Purist are the way to go

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Aside from logos, you may think all bottles are created equal. If this is your opinion, you obviously haven't used a Purist water bottle before. What makes these bottles so great are not only the plastic they use to prevent mold and mildew, but also the spout. The spout has an easy open/close that is simple to use even in the shortest of feed zones. Flow is ample and not like sucking through a straw from all those free water bottles you get from your local shop. Give these a try, I have a feeling you will be a bit more fussy next time you get offered a free bottle.
