Pretty cheap insurance.

When you're on your fifth shuttle run, the lightweight, anti-microbial Six Six One Sub Gear Short-Sleeve has kept your core cool, your muscles supported, and your skin intact after that nasty digger. Think about it: without the Sub Gear your body would be hammered—muscles fatigued and bruised, and a jersey soaked in sweat and blood ... kinda like the stinky Cling-on stuck riding in the bed of the pick-up.

  • Intella-foam absorbs sudden impacts better than traditional EVA foam, up to four times its thickness
  • Dri-Kool 4-Way compression fabric wicks moisture off skin, keeping you cool
  • with a 'K'
  • Mesh window in upper back area provides added breathability
  • An anti-microbial treatment keeps rider-funk at a minimum
  • flat-lock stitching eliminates irritating seams

Fits like a glove

When I opened up the box & looked at this, I thought there was no way this would fit me. Well, once I tried it one, I couldn't believe how well this fit and how comfortable it is to ride with. I've used it maybe 6-7 times now and I'm very happy with it. I've been lucky so far not to crashed to test it out, but fit wise, this thing is nice.

Will this work well for fighting crime? The dry cleaners kind of messed up my superhero suit. If it can take a few roundhouse kicks and lazerbeams, this seems like a suitable temporary alternative.

As light as it gets for shoulder and chest protection

I've hit my shoulder a few times on trees and walls of dirt and landed on my chest a few times, so I wanted to get some protection. The Evo suit was way too hot for XC rides in SoCal summers, but I took think on a ride up Santiago Oaks and it felt alright. It was hot/tight enough to make me feel pain on the climbs and affect my performance (you can feel your chest being constricted), but the bamboo microfiber they use feels amazingly cool when you let the air hit it.

Only thing I don't really like about it is, it's not really long enough in the torso in size small. It only comes to about my hip bones and if it just had a little bit more length, I could maybe use that length to take the damn thing off. It's hard enough that I actually felt like practicing taking it off by myself.

Recommended for winter

As described in other reviews, it fits tight, but it streches and is okay. The shoulder pads feel good. My only reservation is that during summer I cannot wear it because it makes me too hot. But I think during winter, it will be fine.

Almost perfect for XC, Almost...

I got this shirt after seeing a buddy eat it on some rocks and we used everything in my first aid kit to patch up his shoulder. This shirt protects you shoulders an sternum pretty well. I would give it a perfect 5 star rating if it had just a bit of protection for your back/spine. I've worm it in 105 degree humid Missouri wilderness and although the shirt is very tight it's not too hot for the benefit. It's helped me on several occasions that I graze a tree with my shoulder slaloming through wooded single track. It's not going to keep you out of a figure 8 if you pound into something with you collar bone but it helps with the milder hits. I don't do downhill but I can't imagine this is going to do much for you in a 35 mph butt over bars calamity.

nice light weight protection

Fits tight so order your true size. Great if you dont want full pads but would like some extra confidence.

Great lightweight alternative

I suffered a sterum fracture riding this spring. I have a full six-six-one pressure suit, but it was way too much protection for cross country riding. I just wanted something that would add a bit more protection in the event I hit that area again. The shirt fits great and is breathable, and is slim enough that you can wear a jersey over it if you want. And the best part is that it's washable.

Measure your chest and use the size chart exactly as specified. They run a bit small so they fit snuggly as they are supposed to. Don't order a size too small or you'll end up sending it back like I did (but this was super easy to do).

Very much a compression top

If you're looking for some additional protection, but need or want to pop for the full compression suit; this is a great compromise.

Be warned, it is very much a compression top. It fits very tight. I wear a medium in most everything across the board and have a 40 inch chest and this goes on, albeit with some effort. Though once on, it is not constrictive and moves very well.

The fabric seems very tough and will help with rash on a hard fall. The chest padding is flexible, save for the center piece which is hard. The shoulder pads are comprised of hard, outer plastic and the skin side is a bit softer.

It would be nice if the same material on the chest area were stitched in the rear for some spine protection and the reason for 4 stars and not 5.

But otherwise, a solid investment in protection.
