I've got an huge noggin and it's hard to find helmets that fit well and the L/XL works great. Good ventilation and good coverage down the sides and back. My only complaint is the pads on the inside move around a bit and ended up with some velco-burn on my forehead last ride.
Haven't yet tested with direct contact to rocks, trees, other bikers, etc. but fits well, keeps branches from slashing you in the face as you roll. Easy adjustment clips on the back and feels secure on my head. Good air flow on the hot days. Strap are easy to adjust. If it counts for anything a few of the people I've ridden with think it looks cool. Good Helmet.
I purchased this to replace a Giro that was constantly giving my over sized noodle headaches. I have a huge melon-head and this fits perfectly. Great style, fit and coverage. The only real con is there is a 661 logo imprinted into the front cushion. After a few hours of riding the logo is imprinted onto my forehead and stays for a surprisingly long time. It looks a tad like I have the number of the beast on my forehead for awhile. ;)
It has been over a hundred here several days this week. This helmet is very cool and light. Also has a better fit than my Fox Flux did(The Flux saved my life in a fall). The Flux would shift around some, no issue with the Recon. I got the white one, really looks great and for 40 bucks it was a great deal.
Snagged this on chain love! I got my wife a s/m white, which actually looks better than i thought it would. I would even wear it and surprisingly can with a 23 1/4" head. The S/M also fits my 7 year old daughter, so it has great sizing range. I purchased the black L/ XL for myself, and it does fit my head better than the S/M. These are light weight and offer a ton of protection. It also seems to breath every bit as good a my standard XC helmet.
The Recon has it all. Each persons head is slightly different and I've had helmets in the past that fit too tight in front, on the sides, etc... but the Recon is SPOT ON for me. The adjusters in back are super easy to use and make it simple to snug the helmet to your head. I normally wear a 7 3/8" - 7 1/2" helmet so I got the LRG/XL and it's money.
Quality is better than my previous Bell and Specialized helmets. IMO, it also looks like nicer construction than my buddies Giro and Fox helmets. Regardless of how it compares to the others, it's not a crappy helmet by any means.
Style points are huge on the Recon. Right off the bat the semi gloss finish gets my vote. I opted for a Black one, but I'm thinking of getting a White one too, both are good looking lids.
Misc: *Venting is massive and you never feel like your head is throbbing even on the hottest days.
*I don't know what people are talking about when they say you cant mount a light? I have mounted a light as well as my GoPro cam with no trouble at all. It does help if you put a dense piece of foam under your light or cam mount to take up some extra space since the helmet is 'round'ish' on top, but you won;t have a problem mounting whatever you want, or at least I didn't.
This helmet is sick! It has great coverage and is crazy light! My only complaint is that my head is a little too big for the size s/m but way too small for the size l/xl If you have a round head like me thats about 7 3/8- 7 1/2 inches, then you may want to consider another like the giro xen or xar.
Awesome looking helmet, surprisingly light for the amount of coverage it offers your noggin. Great fit. Thank the deities of mountain biking when I wiped out this weekend and had this on!!! Would have been a bad outcome. For the price, it's well worth it.
Sometimes it's hard to tell from a picture what your going to get, but this is a good helmet. It just looks and feels of good quality. The adjustment system in the back works great. Just press the 2 buckles together as far as you need and you can feel it instantly tighten on your head as much as you need. Just pull apart to loosen. Awesome look and style to go with the funtionality. Really did ship WICKED fast as well. Nice work Huck N Roll!
The visor is removable. There are screws on the side of the helmet that can be removed to take the visor off. They are also designed to break away in the event of a crash and then be replaced after the fact.
HuckNRoll rocks for having it in stock and shipping it so quickly, I had one on back order with a different online store for weeks that I eventually canceled. I really like my Recon for comfort and I think it's one of the best looking helmets out there too! I like the fact that the helmet protects the back of your head better than my previous Giro did and I think it weighs about the same. It's a great fitting, great looking helmet that provides good piece of mind at a fair price. Get off the fence and order one!
I love it, but make sure you size down. If you wear a large Xen or Fox, make sure you get a small-medium. This helmet has better coverage and stronger built compared to the Fox Flux and Giro Xen. The vents are well place on it, too. The only problem maybe mounting a helmet light since it's curved a little too much in the front center of the helmet. This helmet looks absolutely killer and it's better constructed IMO than its competitors. That is why it took so much time to get on the market.
