Item # SID003I

Breezy and easy on the feet.

With their proven closure system and upper venting design, the Sidi Spider SRS Mesh Shoes are back with a new sole composition and the sheer elegance that you've come to expect from the Italian shoemaker. And like all Sidi shoes, the Spider SRS Mesh Shoes were designed to provide you with years of trouble-free use, relying on an extensive range of replaceable components to ensure that your investment lasts.

Starting with the closure system, your foot is held in place by Sidi's stiff heel cup and its tried-and-true, two-way ratcheting Caliper Buckle. Assuredly, you've seen the Caliper Buckle imitated by lesser shoemakers. This design, however, was invented by Sidi decades ago. The system allows for incremental adjustments, either pre-ride or on-the-fly, and it's further complemented by Sidi's take on two hook-and-loop straps. Not your standard hook-and-loop, these two volume-controlling straps feature Sidi's patented High Security straps. You'll never experience any fraying, wear, or loosening over any period of time. Together, as a system, the three-point closure system ensures that you get the perfect fit every single time that you buckle up for a ride. And for those who prefer as tight a fit as possible, the shoe's tongue and instep strap have both been padded generously to allow for supreme comfort with tight buckles.

For a difference that you'll feel on the first pedal stroke, Sidi gave the Spider SRS an all new Carbon Composite SRS Sole. This sole not only shaves 80 grams per pair over the previous version, but it also achieves equilibrium between comfort, efficiency, and durability. The sole is plenty stiff for riding, but not so stiff that you can't scramble in them with a bike on your back. The rubber lugs are softer than those on the Dominator 5, so they grip rock better in both wet and dry conditions. And because they're softer, they wear a bit more quickly, but wearing down the lugs isn't an issue because they're bolted on to the sole as part of Sidi's Sole Replacement System (SRS). Sidi has also added a rubber toe guard in front for greater durability.

With a degree of engineered flex in the new Carbon Composite SRS Sole and a secure and slip-free heel, you won't have to worry about hot spots. And you don't have to worry about heat in the rest of your feet, either, with the Spider's combination of Technomicro microfiber and cooling mesh panels — giving you comfort, fit, ultimate ventilation, and durability.

The Sidi Spider SRS Mesh Shoes are available in whole and half sizes from 40.0 to 48.0 and in the color White/black/red vernice. Please note that these shoes are intended for use with two-hole mountain bike cleats.

Unanswered Question

Are these shoes compatible with speedplay frogs? Really I would like to know if the forefoot traction (parallel ones) is wide enough to accommodate frog cleats. I just got a pair of dominators and the frogs just barely fit and I'm wondering if these are a little wider.

Thanks

Great Shoe if on Sale. Sidi Quality!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I have been messing with other shoe brands for a while and now I'm back to Sidi's. Most likely will be all I wear for Mtn bike from now on. No Boa systems or other flashy garbage that will break with normal mtn bike riding with these shoes. This shoe seems to be pretty much a Dominator with Sidi's top of the line carbon sole. The shoe seems to be the standard bombproof shoe that I expect from Sidi. Materials and craftsmanship are top notch. Buckle and straps seem like they will last a long time. Carbon sole does seem stiff and power transfer is great although I can't say it's extremely noticeable over my old dominators. Walking in them seems fine, much better than some Lakes I was using previously which were actually painful. These shoes are marketed towards CX riding and while I haven't run in them I imagine they would be better than some others out there. The sole is stiff and on the pedals they really excell offering an amazingly comfortable and stable platform when riding single track. The minimal walking I have done was alright. The soles do seem to give enough so that they are comfortable off the bike. These shoes come in two syles. This one with mesh and the other that is all Technomicro fiber. I feel these breath about the same as Dominators which is pretty darn good. It has been mid 80's for my past few rides and I have remained comfortable. I haven'nt noticed any fit discrepencies with any of the Sidis I have ever had and these shoes fit the same. I think if you own Sidi's and like the fit order the same size and you should be fine.
Only cons are the color. White mtn shoes look nice for about 5 minutes into the first ride. It's my opinion that Sidi should have made the mesh parts of these shoes a darker color because white, once dirty, will stay dirty. The technomicro fiber parts are alright white and, so far, seem to clean up well. Also, Sidi has chosen to use a softer lug material claiming that it makes walking and running easier. It's my opinion that they are merely looking to have the lugs wear out faster and force you to lay down some serious cash to buy replacements. I haven't noticed any comfort benefit to the softer sole. Walking/running in race designed shoes pretty much sucks regardless and I can't say I've noticed a diference aside from the fact that the Dominators I've had for years still look good and these already have nicks in the lugs after two rides. I will probably look at compatability and go with a harder lug replacement should it come to that.
Overall, I feel it is a no brainer to buy these shoes at BC's sale price over the Dominators given that they do have a better carbon sole. Provided you can deal with the color. At full price I would go with the Dominators as I don't believe the carbon sole is a noticably huge wow inducing improvement, nor any extreme weight savings, and the softer lugs will definately mean you'll be shelling out even more money for replacements.
Only four stars cause of the garbage lugs and Sidi's marketing claim that they make walking and running in the shoe easier. It's a money making scam Sidi!! Gotta say though, at this sale price these are probably the best shoes anywhere.
