Sidi is the world's best-selling brand of road shoes, and the Genius 5 Pro Carbon is Sidi's best-selling road model. There's a reason. Its Lorica upper has all the benefits of leather with none of the negatives. Lorica is supple, conforming, breathable, and will not stretch. In addition, Lorica is water-repellent, highly abrasion resistant, easy to clean, and won't rot or dry out. Sidi combines Lorica with ballistic mesh to give you superb comfort, fit, and ventilation.

The Genius 5 Pro Shoes are made with Sidi's Millennium 3 Carbon Composite sole. Unlike the nylon construction of the Millennium 2 sole, the Millennium 3 is created by injecting carbon fiber into a nylon matrix. This provides 37% greater stiffness than the Millennium 2, and it's more durable to boot. The Millennium 3 also features Sidi's replaceable, non-slip heel pad.

The Genius 5 uses a ratcheting buckle so you can micro-adjust strap pressure to your liking. It's mated to a Soft Arch Compression Strap that more evenly spreads the upward stroke pedaling forces across the top of your foot. The buckle provides 4 clicks per uptake along with half-click releases to tension the pressure of the strap. The shoe is also secured with two High Security Velcro straps. The Velcro is reinforced with locking teeth to resist slippage. Combine these straps with a molded plastic heel cup and you end up with unmatched security. Its padded tongue with fit relievers is one final small (but important) detail that helps deliver unparalleled comfort over longer rides.

Sidi Genius 5 Pro Carbon Shoes are available in White Vernice and come in sizes between 38 and 52 European.

Here's what others have to say...

Italian shoes being Italian shoes

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Sidi shoes are arguably some of the best looking shoes on the market. While other models can get upwards of $500 dollars, the Sidi Genius 5 shoes embody many of these qualities at a better price point. Although the carbon is not visible on the sole, the sole is a carbon composite. The shoe's weight is not phenomenal, but currently neither is my fitness. If you're looking for a super light racing shoe, the Genius 5 might not be for. If you are looking for a very high quality shoe with durable retention, strong construction, and style to boot, this is a great way to go.

Heel slippage

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs large

Sidi's claim to fame seems to be their heel retention. I'm sure their shoes with the adjustable heel cup system do well to support this, however these shoes lack that system.

Personally I found this shoe's heel cup to be too large (or wide). Down a half size and still didn't ever feel comfortable enough to strap cleats on these things and put em through a test ride; just way too much movement. I don't believe it was an overall size issue, as the rest of the fit was pretty spot on. The heel just did not work for me.

Otherwise, seemed very stiff, beautifully constructed and a fantastic closing mechanism. In the end though, it was Giro Factors for me.
