Sidi Five Men's Shoes $289.95
The new face of Genius.
The Genius 5. You may have heard of it. Or seen them on the feet of countless cyclists atop countless podiums worldwide. It's the best-selling shoe in Sidi's impressive cycling shoe stable. In continuing those traditions, the new Sidi Five Shoe delivers many of the same characteristics as its Genius predecessor, while adding in a few marked improvements.
Unchanged from the Genius is the Five's superlative fit constructed around its robust Lorica upper. Like many synthetic leathers but without the downsides, Lorica quickly conforms to foot profiles, is highly breathable, and will not stretch. In addition, Lorica is water repellent, highly abrasion resistant, easy to clean, and it won't rot or dry out. Sidi combines Lorica with ballistic mesh in key areas of the shoe enhance its comfort, fit, and ventilation properties.
New to the Five is Sidi's Eleven Carbon Composite Sole. This proprietary and lightweight sole is constructed from a layered 3k weave of carbon fiber together with a matrix of Nylon 12, which ensures the sole doesn't change shape after prolonged exposure to heat or humidity. Most impressive about the Eleven sole is how exceptionally stiff it remains — a full 20% stiffer than the Genius soles--despite its composite construction. But more importantly, even with the uptick in stiffness, the toe area of the shoe offers a subtle degree of controlled flex to biomechanically relieve stress in the plantar tendon as you ride. If overly stiff shoes are a bane of triathletes in the transition areas, the Eleven Sole should be something of a godsend, as it prevents excessive soreness after long rides.
Sidi adds a ratcheting buckle so you can micro-adjust strap pressure to ensure that the fit of your upper won't be too loose or too tight. It's mated to a Soft Arch Compression Strap that more evenly spreads the upward stroke pedaling forces across the top of your foot. The buckle provides 4 clicks per uptake along with half-click releases, meaning that you can precisely tension the pressure of the strap. No other system so precisely and so gently provides custom fit. You also get the precision of two High Security Velcro straps per shoe. The Velcro is reinforced with integrated locking teeth to absolutely, positively resist slippage. Combine these straps with a molded plastic heel cup and you end up with unmatched security. Its padded tongue with fit 'relievers' is one final small (but important) detail that helps deliver unparalleled comfort.
The Sidi Five Shoes are available in the color Vernice Black and in half, full, and wide sizes from 38 to 48.

Stormy at the beginning, then love
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I won't really give any other brand a chance, but the Sidi 5 is great as long as it fits. All the other high-star reviews here are correct as far as they go, I completely agree. The catch with Sidi is that the production variance is pretty high, so a Narrow might be the same as a Regular. I felt like I had to return this shoe too often before I finally found one that fit, even though they were all the exact same size. Once I find one that fits, it's great.
A fantastic fit, one way or another.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Im a large 6'3" rider and the most impressive thing about these shoes is their ability to conform to different shapes of feet even for the same size. I have a wider foot and its usually a challenge to find shoes that feel comfortable and efficient when you wear a size 13. I've purchased wide editions Shimano shoes in the past and I find that they are a bit too elongated so there is far too much room in front of the toe area when everything else is the correct position. These shoes on the other hand, have the perfect amount of room front to back and laterally without any pinching or rubbing.
Overall, the price is a bit steep, but the comfort is well worth it.
finally a good fit
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I had an old cheap pair of sidis that unfortunately weren't the correct size. after dropping to a 42.5, im a US 10 in most gym shoes, these fit well. no sliding, good securement, the ratcheting buckle is phenomenal and that little bit of adjusting either way makes a big difference when its just bit tight or a bit loose. I haven't put many miles on them yet as its cold in Chicago but so far im glad I got them.

I purchased a pair of these in a size 42 mega and after putting well over a thousand miles on them they are most comfortable cycling shoes I've owned. I have very wide feet that have been likened to Fred Flintstone's so these have been an excellent addition to my equipment. Several years ago I purchased a pair of Sidi mountain shoes in a 42.5 for additional width but they have not fit correctly despite a lot of effort. As another review mentioned the megas are quite wide and the toe box is large but what it also allows for is the use of anatomic insoles to customize the fit. Now that I have these I keep asking myself why I waited so long to buy the megas but with the upgrades to this year's shoes it was a win-win. The shoes are stiff, fit like a glove and more importantly very comfortable.
Love this shoe
Sidi doesn't mess around with their shoes and this is no exception. The upper is solid and has very little to no stretch in it. I usually wear a 42 in euro sizing and had to go with the 42.5 in this shoe do to width. It isn't narrow, but my foot is wide, but not quite wide enough to go with the wide version of the shoe. Keeping the lower two Velcro closures loose while cranking down on the top click buckle provides plenty of comfort while maintaining the great stability. The composite carbon sole is stiff and ready to grind. I've been very impressed with this shoe over the course of the first 100 miles.
596 grams for 43 mega haven't ridden them any distance yet but feel true to size, my nothwave size is 42.5 Pearl Izumi 43
this is what I have to report so far if it helps
