The new face of Genius.

The Genius 5. You may have heard of it. Or seen them on the feet of countless cyclists atop countless podiums worldwide. It's the best-selling shoe in Sidi's impressive cycling shoe stable. In continuing those traditions, the new Sidi Five Shoe delivers many of the same characteristics as its Genius predecessor, while adding in a few marked improvements.

Unchanged from the Genius is the Five's superlative fit constructed around its robust Lorica upper. Like many synthetic leathers but without the downsides, Lorica quickly conforms to foot profiles, is highly breathable, and will not stretch. In addition, Lorica is water repellent, highly abrasion resistant, easy to clean, and it won't rot or dry out. Sidi combines Lorica with ballistic mesh in key areas of the shoe enhance its comfort, fit, and ventilation properties.

New to the Five is Sidi's Eleven Carbon Composite Sole. This proprietary and lightweight sole is constructed from a layered 3k weave of carbon fiber together with a matrix of Nylon 12, which ensures the sole doesn't change shape after prolonged exposure to heat or humidity. Most impressive about the Eleven sole is how exceptionally stiff it remains — a full 20% stiffer than the Genius soles--despite its composite construction. But more importantly, even with the uptick in stiffness, the toe area of the shoe offers a subtle degree of controlled flex to biomechanically relieve stress in the plantar tendon as you ride. If overly stiff shoes are a bane of triathletes in the transition areas, the Eleven Sole should be something of a godsend, as it prevents excessive soreness after long rides.

Sidi adds a ratcheting buckle so you can micro-adjust strap pressure to ensure that the fit of your upper won't be too loose or too tight. It's mated to a Soft Arch Compression Strap that more evenly spreads the upward stroke pedaling forces across the top of your foot. The buckle provides 4 clicks per uptake along with half-click releases, meaning that you can precisely tension the pressure of the strap. No other system so precisely and so gently provides custom fit. You also get the precision of two High Security Velcro straps per shoe. The Velcro is reinforced with integrated locking teeth to absolutely, positively resist slippage. Combine these straps with a molded plastic heel cup and you end up with unmatched security. Its padded tongue with fit 'relievers' is one final small (but important) detail that helps deliver unparalleled comfort.

The Sidi Five Shoes are available in the color Vernice Black and in half, full, and wide sizes from 38 to 48.

Great reputation for a reason

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

So my beloved pair of Adidas Adistar road shoes finally gave out after more than 13 years of faithful service. Man, I loved those shoes.

I started looking around for something similar (black - not too flashy, carbon sole, ratchet strap over the instep) and found these. I have a high instep and relatively narrow foot, and these fit extremely well. The padding in the tongue and around the heel is neither too plush, or too spartan. Just right.

I was not sure how I would like the "patent leather" look of these shoes, but they do look very classy right out of the box. The logos are not obnoxious, and the shoe in my opinion is nicely understated. Since they are black they are not ostentatious - they just look good. Ventilation, through well-placed mesh inserts, is adequate even for hot days.

My standard training ride is anywhere from 35 to 50 miles, and these shoes remain comfortable over the duration of those rides. Depending on what kind of ride I am on, I do sometimes get hotspots under the ball of my foot, but I attribute that more to my riding style than any design flaw of the shoe.

One comment on sizing: I have owned several pairs of European shoes, and depending on the brand have either worn a 42 or 43 - I am normally a solid 9 for US sizing (relatively narrow foot and high instep). I took a 43 in these shoes, after trying both the 42 and the 43.
Bottom line: If you are looking for a shoe that performs as you expect, provides adequate comfort for most riding situations, and that is not shouting "look at me", this is probably the shoe for you.

Great fit, Excellent comfort

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Took these out on their debut ride up emmigration canyon. I replaced a fairly new pair of diadoras that I just wasnt very happy with. First thing i noticed when i took these out of the box is that the tongue has a nice thick chamois-like material underneath it and good padding elsewhere at common pressure point areas.

I threw these on out of the box and went for a ride and never even noticed them the entire ride. I was in pain but my feet were not. These are a great buy and your feet will thank you.

Unanswered Question

Your sidi size chart says a 43= us size 9, but other charts I see around the inter webs say a sidi 43.5 = us size 9. Which is it? I just bought the shoes after riding in a size 43 Audi t2. These seems a little small I least on my right foot after a bit of riding my foot fell aslee. what do you suggest?

Every bit good as I had heard.

Finally, I have Sidi cycling shoes and they are as comfortable and well made as I have been told they would be. Thanks for these great shoes and a fantastic price as well. Fit is excellent, normally a European shoe feels tight when I get the size that the sizing charts recommend, these are spot on for me. I am a size 11 in American sizing, Sidi recommended a 46, they nailed it perfectly. I'll give more of a review when I have some honest miles on them in a few weeks, at least 1K or better first.

Very pleased.

Now that I have these, there shouldn't be anything keeping me from the yellow, save athletic ability and corporate sponsorship. Seriously, they seem to be holding up well, they look great and fit wonderful. I went with them based on my experience with Sidi motorcyle boots. Coming from tri shoes, they fit much snugger when you tighten them up using the ratchet mech. Being my first pair of official road shoes, they have made me very happy. I had no problem with cleat postion as one rider noted. The replacable rubber heel is a nice feature over hard plastic. I bought a size 45 (regular) which seems to fit my foot perfect. Just so you have an idea of my foot, a size 11 Brooks (pure cadence series) fits me wonderful and I find Puma shoes too narrow. I also like long walks on the beach.

Sidi 5 shoe i got it takes me 3 tries to get my size right. it end up to 44 mega. after riding 150 miles on it the shoe break in and its comfortable i like.

I don't like the "patent leather" look -- the picture shows a plain black but the video shows it to be shiny. Which is it on the Sidi 5 shoe? (I'm a female cyclist with wide feet so I wear mens' shoe sizes -- been wearing Sidi shoes for 20+ years.)

Mine are shiny, just bought them in Febuary.

Lofty Tradition... Upheld.

I wore the old Genius for the decade-plus that it took to destroy it (5-6kmiles/yr)... Then tried several of Sidi's "new" models-- the Ergo Vent, Wire and 6-- along with a couple by Giro. Great for some riders, de gustibus non disputandum. Finally I gave up and got the "old" now new Fives, fearing modernity might have ruined my old friends, and what a great shoe. Better than the old one. A tiny bit more room at the ball; more firm but still supple upper; firmer but still so comfortable sole. 30-50 mile rides and they are still like fine leather gloves. Do 100 miles hard and of course you notice your tired feet, but you'll barely recognize the foot-shoe-pedal interface, which is still like a glove. Bravo SIDI.

Not Impressed at All

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have tried these shoes in mega and even though the fit was decent I did not like the quality of insoles. It seems Sidi is too cheap to put a better foot-bed that won't have gaps and slide around while pedaling. My biggest problem with the shoes was the cleat position. Even with the SPD-SL cleat moved all the way back it felt that the pedal was not far enough back which was causing calf cramps. I ended up returning them and getting Lake shoes instead.

Stormy at the beginning, then love

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I won't really give any other brand a chance, but the Sidi 5 is great as long as it fits. All the other high-star reviews here are correct as far as they go, I completely agree. The catch with Sidi is that the production variance is pretty high, so a Narrow might be the same as a Regular. I felt like I had to return this shoe too often before I finally found one that fit, even though they were all the exact same size. Once I find one that fits, it's great.

A fantastic fit, one way or another.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Im a large 6'3" rider and the most impressive thing about these shoes is their ability to conform to different shapes of feet even for the same size. I have a wider foot and its usually a challenge to find shoes that feel comfortable and efficient when you wear a size 13. I've purchased wide editions Shimano shoes in the past and I find that they are a bit too elongated so there is far too much room in front of the toe area when everything else is the correct position. These shoes on the other hand, have the perfect amount of room front to back and laterally without any pinching or rubbing.
Overall, the price is a bit steep, but the comfort is well worth it.

finally a good fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had an old cheap pair of sidis that unfortunately weren't the correct size. after dropping to a 42.5, im a US 10 in most gym shoes, these fit well. no sliding, good securement, the ratcheting buckle is phenomenal and that little bit of adjusting either way makes a big difference when its just bit tight or a bit loose. I haven't put many miles on them yet as its cold in Chicago but so far im glad I got them.

Incredible shoes!

I purchased a pair of these in a size 42 mega and after putting well over a thousand miles on them they are most comfortable cycling shoes I've owned. I have very wide feet that have been likened to Fred Flintstone's so these have been an excellent addition to my equipment. Several years ago I purchased a pair of Sidi mountain shoes in a 42.5 for additional width but they have not fit correctly despite a lot of effort. As another review mentioned the megas are quite wide and the toe box is large but what it also allows for is the use of anatomic insoles to customize the fit. Now that I have these I keep asking myself why I waited so long to buy the megas but with the upgrades to this year's shoes it was a win-win. The shoes are stiff, fit like a glove and more importantly very comfortable.

Love this shoe

Sidi doesn't mess around with their shoes and this is no exception. The upper is solid and has very little to no stretch in it. I usually wear a 42 in euro sizing and had to go with the 42.5 in this shoe do to width. It isn't narrow, but my foot is wide, but not quite wide enough to go with the wide version of the shoe. Keeping the lower two Velcro closures loose while cranking down on the top click buckle provides plenty of comfort while maintaining the great stability. The composite carbon sole is stiff and ready to grind. I've been very impressed with this shoe over the course of the first 100 miles.

update, just rode 102 miles yesterday in Florida Horrible Hundred ride, no hot spots numbness, never thought of my feet, really like them as I have a lot of trouble finding shoes that fit as i have a wide foot, these fit the bill, also I have my specialized blue foot beds in them,
