Ergo-licious.

Building off the smashing success of Shimano's XT BR-M785B Disc Brakes, the Shimano XT BL-M8000 Disc Brakes offer enhanced ergonomics with their sleek integrated master cylinder and simple integration with I-Spec II shift levers. Not only does this improved design shave precious grams, but it also frees up valuable real estate along the handlebars, which is always a positive with the ubiquitous use of dropper posts on modern trail bikes.

Sero Wave technology delivers reliable stopping performance across widely variable trail conditions and riding disciplines. This technology improves brake engagement by closing quickly upon first squeeze, ramping up power after initial engagement for improved bite. 22mm ceramic pistons inspire riders to push their limits with gobs of stopping power at a moment's notice. Shimano's Radiator Pads disperse heat on shuttle runs and lift-accessed downhills, preventing dreaded brake fade on lengthy descents. Tool-free reach adjustment dials in a custom feel for precise trigger actuation.

The Shimano XT BL-M8000 Disc Brakes come with everything needed for installation. This brake kit works with Shimano's XT and XT Ice-Tech Rotors for reliable stopping performance in all conditions. Hinged, split clamps allow for easy mounting. The pre-bled lever/caliper/hose assembly is ready for installation on your favorite trail bike.

Reliable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I made the switch to Shimano XT's 2 years ago and won't go back to anything else. I've experienced nothing but reliability and confidence in these brakes. I bleed them once a season and change then pads out when needed, and that's all I've had to do. The price is reasonable for how long they'll last you and they look pretty cool up on the handle bars too. Levers are a good size and make it easy to engage with a single finger and the response time is incredible. I would highly recommend these brakes to most any mountain biker out there.

The standard for a reason.

Set up was easy, but I did have to trim both front and rear hoses. They feel great now with nice firm level-feel and outstanding modulation. They feel about a million times better than Guide R's and feel the same as Deores, but look a bit sleeker. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

pump the brakes bro

I say that now but really brakes arent even necessary. I purchased these strictly as a back up in case my feet and head dont do the job.

Shimano XT Brakes

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had the generation of XT's before and these look way sleeker. I love the modulation of these brakes and how the have a on/off feel. These brakes are great for cross country all the way up to all mountain and have even ridden them on my downhill bike.

Flawless

Been running these XT brakes for 3 years now. Replacement of worn out pads are extremely easy. I've never had any bleed issues with these. The newer finned brake pads are great for avoiding fade if you live somewhere this elevation.

    Flawless
    Unanswered Question

Is an extra olive and insert included for shortening the cable? Is a bleed block included?

    So Good!

These things just plain perform. I've had older generations and this latest as well. They have not let me down and in my opinion provide some of the strongest and best feel in brakes today!

hi, can i buy just up portion( Hand portion)?

    Hey Pierre,

The lever and calipers are sold pre bled and unfortunately they are not sold individually through us - don't hesitate reaching out directly if you have any other questions or anything I can help out with!

    Good Brakes

I have an older pair of these on another bike. These are just as good and lighter. Easy to install with the clam shell clamp and super easy to bleed. Question is: do I get another pair for my wife's bike?

    Shimano XT BL-M8000 Disc Brake

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Wow these brakes are very strong. I loved the Magura that came with my Epic but these are much more responsive and have an awesome bite. Great upgrade to what I think were a great breaking system.

Do these brakes require Shimano rotors or can I just replace my Avid Juicy brakes with these without having to buy new rotors?

    Hey William,

You can use XT Brakes with non Shimano rotors, though I would give the Avid rotors a really solid cleaning with rubbing alcohol to make sure they don't contaminate the new brake pads.

That said if the rotors are pretty worn or warped, I'd replace them. I like to replace it as a whole usually, but the older rotors will work fine. Reach out if there's anything else I can help out with!

    Great update from my Avid!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Shimano stuff is always good in my experience. I bought these brakes to replace some Avid. They work great! Recommend getting a bleed kit to shorten the hose.

If you want a brake with a great single finger lever that works, look no further. These brakes simple work and get the job done. The new clamp is thin, so when mounted on the bar they are clean and simple. Love this little guys

    Awesome Brakes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I’ve been using XT brakes for a while and the newest version are the best to date. From the updated caliper to the solid master cylinder these work flawlessly and look great. These also still use the same pads from the previous version. For the money these are some of the best brakes you can buy.

    Value priced, high end performance

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been a firm believer in shimano brakes for years now and they only continue to get better. I built up my last bike with the new m8000 brakes and I couldn't have made a better decision. It wasn't because of the price, but more for the performance. Sure the XTR's might be a tad lighter, but for the price, the two almost perform the same. They are rugged and durable, the modulation is spot on, and super easy to adjust. The lever reach is a great feature for those with larger or smaller hands and the lever blade is contoured well for easy use and comfort for those long extended braking sections. On bike set up is extremely easy as well, just center the caliper over the rotor and tighten it down! If it ever needs to be adjusted, which I'm sure most will find, just repeat the above steps and the rotor rub is usually gone unless you seriously warped or bent your rotor. Then that's a whole different procedure. The bleed process is one of the easiest I've used compared to other brands (formula, avid, magura) for the initial set up or if you find that air has gotten into the line.

    Value priced, high end performance

    what are the rotor sizes?

Hey Richard - The rotors are not included but sold separately under Shimano XT SM-RT86 Rotor - 6-Bolt (Item #SHI001B). You can also buy the whole Shimano XT Groupset (Item #SHI001J). Looks like you might be building up a new bike so feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.
