Shimano's Ultegra Di2 electronic shifting system is far too tempting to resist. It delivers the precision and consistency of the Dura-Ace Di2 group to a far more affordable price point. The Ultegra Di2 Upgrade Kit includes the Ultegra Di2 Shift/brake levers, front and rear Ultegra Di2 derailleurs, and the five wires to connect it all -- Front wire, Front wire to junction, Front derailleur wire, Battery wire, and Rear derailleur wire. The front wire kit has an integrated A junction, but the B junction is a separate unit. You'll get that as well. The kit also includes a battery and battery mount along with a charger and cable. This is the minimum amount of gear that you'll need to run Di2, so you won't spend any more than necessary.
Like the Dura-Ace version, Ultegra Di2 changes the way you shift your road bike. Gone are the days of twisting your hands around the hoods to make the long throws required by mechanical shifters. Instead, a slight one-fingered tap of the Di2 buttons, akin to changing channels on the TV remote, commands a quick and positive gear change for either end of the bike. From the hoods or from the drops, shifting has never before had less of an effect on your position and tempo.
You may be wondering if this Di2 Upgrade Kit will work on your bike even if you don't have 6700 Ultegra on it. The simple answer is yes. The more complex answer is still yes, but it must include a caveat about crankarm spider and chainring stiffness. Concurrent with the development of Di2, Shimano made their 6700 crank and rings super stiff to resist deflection by the front derailleur as it ratchets into position. This ensures the absolute quickness that Di2 front shifts are known for. Will it work with another Shimano or FSA 10-speed crank? For sure, but know that you may only get grade A shifting rather than the A+ that a complete Di2/6700 group would give you.
You'll want to measure your bike to determine which size wire kit you'll need to fit your bike. To determine this, Shimano recommends measuring from the bottom of the bottom bracket shell to the back of the bottom of the head tube to find the length in millimeters. Call this measurement "B." Then measure from that same point on the bottom of the head tube to the bottom of the handlebar next to the stem. Call this measurement "A." Add A+B-30 to get X, the size needed. The Short is 700mm long. The Medium is 750mm long. The Long measures 900mm. You can use the kit that is as long or longer than your computed measurement. Too short and you won't be able to make the connections!
If your bike frame is Di2 specific and built for the wires to run completely inside the frame, select the Internal version. If not, then the External version is the one you want.
The only other option to consider when purchasing this Shimano Ultegra Di2 Upgrade Kit is front derailleur style -- Braze-on, 31.8mm clamp-on, or 34.9mm clamp-on. All options come with a braze-on style Di2 Front Derailleur as this is the only way Shimano makes it. The clamp-on options will get an adapter clamp that is specifically made for and anodized to match the Ultegra Di2 front derailleur.
