Pro performance for every day.

Shimano Ultegra has always been the groupset of choice for riders who prefer bombproof durability over the latest in carbon. But, what those riders also know is that Ultegra is always privy to the latest advancements in the venerable Dura-Ace group. The Ultegra 6800 is no exception.

Taking its cues from the Dura-Ace 9000, 11-speed group, the STI shifters see a significant leaning toward the engineering and aesthetic of its older sibling. The bulkiness of the old Ultegra shifters has been replaced with a slimmer, dual-compound rubber composite hood and streamlined carbon fiber levers. This means improved grip on the hoods as well as more reliable shifting. Additionally, they now have 10mm of reach adjustment to ensure the perfect fit for most hand sizes.

As far as the shifting, Ultegra has upped Shimano’s "Rider-Tuned" philosophy a notch. To begin with, the lever stroke has been shortened by almost 13%. This means that you won’t have to push as far to make the gear change. Using its Vivid Index Technology, the effort to downshift is now as smooth as to move the gears up. This is done not only through careful design of the Ultegra 6800 STI mechanism itself, but also through the incorporation of Shimano’s polymer-coated shifter cables that reduce drag.

Excellent Shifting and Ergonomics

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Ultegra 6800 shifters give you the amazing performance you'd expect from Shimano at a reasonable price. Ergonomics are a vast improvement over the previous generation. Hard to be performance/weight to price ratio.

Crisp and Precise

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After many miles, rough and smooth roads in all kinds of weather these shifters are the real deal. Crisp and precise. The respond on a dime. The are a little heavier then the Dura Ace. The action is awesome, no delay.

I have my bike with all Ultegra 6800 components, except for the Shifters, I´m running 105. I don´t feel my gears as crisp and smooth everybody claims for the 6800´s series. Am I missing something here? Do I need the Ultegra shifters for the complete system to work at his best or my 105´s should do the work (in that case my index or tunning must be wrong)? Thanks for any advice or comment.

Smooth shifting

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I upgraded from Dura Ace 7900 which I thought was great shifting but Ultegra 6800 is a HUGE improvement. Best word to describe it is smooth. Very light action to shift rear or front derailleur.
Only big adjustment is the trim function. You get 3 clicks to go from big ring to small. First is to "big ring trim", second is to small ring, and third is trim for small ring. This takes a lot of getting used to and is kind of a pain to set up initially. You need an inline cable adjuster to make the Ultegra installation. Once adjusted, it works great!

Ultra Nice Ultegras

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is my first pair of Ultegras so I'm not sure if I know as much as the next person, but in my opinion these STI shifters are awesome. Very smooth shifting every time, and they feel great. Also 11speed is where it's at, might cross your chain a bit more causing more front derailleur adjustments, but the extra gear is well worth it.

Goodbye 6700 10 Speed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently upgraded my Roubaix from a mix of Ultegra/DuraAce 10 Speed to all Ultegra 6800 11 Speed. What and evolution. The shifting, in particular, is incredibly refined. I always kept my components clean and replaced cables frequently, so the difference I'm feeling isn't just shiny new components; it's a technology leap. The braking is greatly improved as well and just feels solid and crisp with great feedback from the levers. The smaller hood shape is very comfortable and the looks are appealing. The cable install is also easier than ever. Well done Shimano!

Smooth shifting...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My new Cervelo came equipped with the Ultegra 6800 11-speed drivetrain and is noticably smoother shifting than the old 6700 10-speed. First thing you will notice is the redesigned hoods are smaller and more comfortable. Then you'll notice the shift stroke is shorter and more crisp. Combined with the PTFE cables and 6800 group derailleurs it is a smooth system-rapid shifts with distinct stops. All this and a new sexy shape to the brake levers-good looks and great performance!

i bought the ultegra 6800 shifter and F/R...

i bought the ultegra 6800 shifter and F/R derailler. but I'm using 10s cassette. is this set up will work?

Is the Shimano's polymer-coated and PTFE...

Is the Shimano's polymer-coated and PTFE cables of this goods included?

Shimano cables and housing are included with the 6800 shifters.

Please be advised that both sets of housing (shift/brake) and brake cables are NOT included with the shifters. I was quite surprised when I received my first pair in a ziplock bag and called CC for a replacement. They assured me that all cables and housing would be included (which BTW is the standard in the industry), BUT the replacement set came in a baggie (not official Shimano box), missing the aforementioned items again. After contacting CC again, I was informed that this is the way Shimano ships the items to CC..."incomplete" is all that comes to mind.

I wish I would have read this comment before ordered the shifters. It doesn't clearly say the cables are included so I ended up purchasing cables which I now have to return. Maybe under Tech Specs it can say "Shimano PTFE Shift Cables Included."

Will 6800 shifters work with Dura-Ace 7801...

Will 6800 shifters work with Dura-Ace 7801 rear derailleur?

Unfortunately, these shifters will not work with a Dura-Ace 7801 rear derailleur as it is a 10-speed derailleur and these are 11-speed shifters.

will 6800 shifters work with 6700 group...

will 6800 shifters work with 6700 group set?

No, unfortunately the 6800 shifters will only work with 6800 or 9000. The 6700 is 10 speed and the 6800 is 11 speed.
