Focus on the important things.

The longer the race, the more the details matter. Getting the little things right doesn't necessarily mean adding bells and whistles, though; sometimes it's simplicity that makes the difference. For proof, just take a peep at the Shimano SH-TR32 Men's Tri Shoes. From the soles to the upper to the closure, Shimano did away with extraneous bits and focused on comfort, simplicity, and efficiency, so you'll be able to speed through T1 and cruise through the ride without worry about your feet.

The TR32 is a pretty sleek shoe. Shimano opted to make the upper from light and stretch-resistant synthetic leather, but integrated plenty of 3D mesh panels for cooling and moisture management, so your feet won't stay wet after you jump out of the water. A seamless synthetic lining makes for comfortable sockless pedaling, and the single hook-and-loop strap makes it easy to slide the shoe on when it's already clipped in and allows for simple adjustment when you're on the go. There's also a heel pull loop to help you cruise through T1 that much faster.

Underneath, the sole balances flexibility and stiffness to provide plenty of pedaling power without crushing your feet. Shimano constructed the platform from relatively forgiving polyamide and reinforced it with fiberglass, so the shoe won't wilt under pressure but won't be unmanageably uncomfortably on a long ride, either.

  • Synthetic leather and 3D mesh upper
  • Seamless synthetic lining
  • Fiberglass-reinforced polyamide sole
  • Single hook-and-loop strap
  • Heel pull tab
  • Three-hole road cleat compatibility

Excellent Tri Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42

Wore these for the first time in my 8th Olympic distance tri. Very comfortable. Performed great. Nice technical features on strap to hold shoe open for easy entry in transition with shoes clipped in. Well ventilated. Excellent value.

Great shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 47

Bought these as my first riding shoe and I love them. They're light, comfortable, and the 47 fits my size 12 feet perfectly. My first ride in them was about 10 miles and I forgot I had shoes on during the ride. I'm not sure how they compare to fancier shoes, but I definitely recommend these for beginners.

Shimano SHTR-32

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Pros - Comfortable shoe; I haven't felt the occasional numbness in my toes that I experienced with my prior shoes on any rides. Wore the shoes in a IM training and event and had no issues this year.

Cons - The velcro fastening strap is considerably too long. I had to cut the ends off the straps so they wouldn't hit or get caught up in the crank.

Overall. Good value in the shoe and I'll be wearing them for awhile. They feel lightweight and solid.
