I am riding a 44.5 mavic Zxellium. Do you think the same size will fit correctly? from the chart it looks like it might be too small.
I would go with the 45 in the Shimano SH-R241 Shoes if your shoe size is 10.5.
I went with the 44.5 and they were way too big. Perhaps the 44 would of fit better. I think the size chart is incorrect, I don't think it is backcounty's fault, more like Shimano's.

These are really nice shoes. I've done around 1000 miles in them and enjoy using them. The build quality is great and the plastic/rubber things on the front and heel of the shoe show little to no wear, but the lacquer from the toe of one of the soles has chipped away due to planting my feet at stop lights. The ventilation on the front of the shoe is really effective and I've ended up with cold toes multiple times if temperatures dropped into the 60s, but I imagine this will be excellent when the temperatures pick up. Furthermore, I have not had the shoes heat molded, but I still think they are very comfortable and I've never had any hot spots. The ratcheting strap works really well and allows for a really secure fit without constricting blood flow to your foot. The velcro closures work well as well, and show no signs of fraying. Overall, at $150 these are a steal.
For reference, I have a pair of Mavic shoes that are a size 12 (USA) and the Shimano in 46 (EUR) fit me really well.
Excellent Shoe, fits my narrow foot well

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I have only ridden with these shoes about 5 times since I received them, but am very satisfied with their fit, function, and comfort. The carbon fibre foot bed helps stiffen the chassis of the shoe to direct maximum power to the pedals. I was riding wooden soled shoes and was worried about how stiff "plastic" shoes were going to be. The r241's are at least as stiff as the wood, plus they are lighter. The vent holes in the toe box will help in the summers, but could be an issue in colder weather; I live in the desert, so its a non issue for me :)
The strap system is efficient and effective. The ratcheting strap allows you to adjust the tension on the top of your foot during your ride so you can maximize your power when needed and then relax the tension, thereby increasing overall comfort.
I am amazed at how comfortable the shoes are. The longest ride I have taken in them has been 45 miles. My feet never felt that good after that length of ride before. The liner in the shoe, the vent holes, and the ratcheting strap make for a highly adjustable, very comfortable (YMMV) and lightweight package that is a joy to ride in.
My old shoes had one thing going for them, they lasted over 30 years. Not sure the r241's will last that long, but I will buy another pair when these wear out.
High Quality, Long Toe Box
Great shoes, well made. Previously used LG in a 45 and Specialized 44. These seem to be made with a long toe box. Ordered a 44.5 to see how the fit was and found the toe box a little long. Ordered a 44 and it reduced the length of the toe box but it was a hair too tight at the widest part of my foot. Keeping the 44.5. Great deal for quality shoes just keep in mind the toe box. Otherwise perfect.
is this pair of shoes fully mold-able or...
is this pair of shoes fully mold-able or just insoles?
Fully moldable by a Shimano Authorized Dealer. They have a little oven and vacuum machine to mold it to your foot. You can find the Shimano PDF dealer process with some googling, but you take the risk of messing the shoe up.
Shimano SH-R241 Shoes
Excellent Shoes, fit issue for me
The material and construction of this shoe were top notch. The sole was vary nice and the overall shoe was very light. They looked great and I was confident the shoe would have lasted many years.
The problem for me was two-fold. First I ordered several sizes and couldn't find the size that would fit my volume that wasn't too long in the toe box. Here is the thing, the Shimano shoes fit narrower than other shoes I have tried (Northwave, Mavic, Specialized, even Sidi) and lower volume than all but Giro. The tow box is relatively long for the width. Once I found the right size for my foot the toe box had way too much extra room. This caused my little to to rub o the shoe right were the mesh meets the stiffer material from the strap. It created a bunch of friction on the top of my little toe that made these a no go.
If you have a lower volume foot or longer toes I think the Shimano or Giro are the best match. I eventually found the Northwave Extreme with the high volume insole (they come with a slim fit insole as well) were the best match for me.
They look great
They look great in person. The sole has no flex what so ever, and the carbon weave looks great. Ventilation looks very good, and the abrasive (by design) heel fibers seem like a good idea for keeping your feet in place. Unfortunately, I am returning these because they are too big. I'm a 44 in Sidi's higher end stuff (I've noticed some of there lower end stuff fits different) and ordered a 44.5 based upon the provided sizing chart. They were just too big. I probably could have went down a half if not a whole size.
worth every penny.
I went for my first ride on these shoes today.
I loved them. They are light, stiff, well ventilated and seem to have good quality. Thank you Real cyclist!

hey i ride a sidi ergo 2, 44, what size in this shimano r241 should i buy??
Well I can tell you what size not to buy. I'm a 44 in Sidi as well. Based upon the sizing chart, I should be a 44.5, however, this was a bit big.
