Perfect for cruising.

For casual riding, you need a comfortable shoe, like the Shimano SH-MT44 shoe. With a breathable mesh upper, and an easy-to-use drawcord closure, it’s perfect for recreational riding, with or without clipless pedals. And with the extra roomy toe box, you won’t feel like you’re cramming your feet into tap dancing shoes, which is perfect if you find yourself having to walk your bike.

To ensure a tunable fit, the upper is built out of a blend of stretch-resistant mesh and synthetic leather. The mesh panels improve airflow to keep your feet cool. Your feet are secured by a locking drawcord that’s very user friendly. Shimano built the MT44 on the Tour Volume last, which features a larger toe box than Shimano’s other offerings. The last sits on EVA midsole, which is optimized for comfort and a smooth ride. The durable rubber lugs on the bottom are built to withstand plenty of hiking, both on trails and on the streets.

The Shimano SH-MT44 shoe is available in eleven sizes, from 38 to 48, and in the colors Black, and Green.

  • Synthetic leather and stretch-resistant mesh uppers
  • Roomy toe box
  • EVA midsole
  • Drawcord closure
  • Durable rubber lugs

Comfort andStability

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 10

I wanted a versatile mountain biking shoe that can either clip in or not. This shoe has provided me with both. I have the freedom to choose. the sole is a nice hard base that doesn't 'wrap' around the pedal. Thanks Shimano!!

Very comfortable shoe at a good price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 46

This shoe is a good choice for those with wide feet.
I wear a size 11 in street shoes and the 46 fits well.
I recently wore these shoes on a hilly 105 mile road ride.
On such rides my feet tend to swell and a shoe needs to have a bit of stretch in it to accommodate that - the SH-MT44 performed quite well.
I bought some Giro Empire VR90's about a year ago and found that, while they do well on shorter rides, they have no ability to stretch, presumably due to the synthetic upper, and so longer rides in them are painful.
Compared to a higher-end shoe like the VR90, the SH-MT44 is not particularly light but at this price point that would be an unreasonable expectation.
While I continue my search for a higher-end, lightweight stiff SPD shoe that fits wider feet, this shoe will be my go-to for long challenging rides, both on and off-road.

Comfortable, breathable, durable shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I submitted a review of the Yeti Teller shorts with the same title. It's not a lack of imagination, but rather a listing of the items of importance, in order, to me. Like the shorts, these shoes are my first option when heading out on a mtn bike ride. As stated in another review these shoes work well on and off the bike due to the recessed cleats and large lugs. Living and riding in the heat of Arizona is why the breathable attribute is important to me, and these do not disappoint. Sizing is true. The lacing system makes adjustment and securing easy. These shoes will not disappoint.

Good looking and durable with one flaw

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42

I love them. Use for commuting. Most durable pair I ever wore. Keeps feet warm and dry. The drawstring lacing is just weird though. You have to be careful not to get the string caught on any object because it will break; it is that thin. That happened to me. Wish i could get a replacement. Am using a regular shoelace and it works fine.

Commuting, bikepacking and all-rounder

bought these when they first came out...was a little concerned about the 'cinch style' (like saloman trail shoes) as it didn't look as robust but after a year of regular use and abuse, they are still going strong. These are not lightweight, uber stiff racing shoes. But they are stiff enough for good power transfer through the spds. The cleat is recessed so you are not clanking if walking into starbucks or if you ride to spinning class (who does that?). I've done 5 day bikepacking trips where they've been on my feet 18hrs each day and they are comfortable and durable. I reach for these for most of my rides anymore (leaving my 2 pair of race oriented shoes in the garage) as I can wear them driving to the trailhead, ride in them, and into restaurant afterwards for some post ride beverage and nourishment... They fit a little wider than your typical racing style shoe.
