When creating its SH-M200 Shoes, Shimano sought to strike a balance between XC lightness and enduro aggro. The SH-M200 gives trail and all-mountain/enduro riders the traction and protection that they need around their feet on a hard ride without sacrificing responsiveness on the pedals. Shimano also offers the shoe in Wide width, so there's no need to cram your toes into too-narrow cages, spending your ride counting down the minutes until you can take them off.
The SH-M200 achieves a slim fit and consistent power transfer courtesy of its synthetic leather upper and carbon-injected nylon sole, which earns a stiffness rating of eight out of 12 on Shimano's stiffness index. Shimano also adds its Torbal (Torsional Balance) midsole to the SH-M200's to allow the foot to move more naturally during descents rather than keeping it locked in place completely, but the added flexibility doesn't impact the carbon-injected sole's ability to transfer power once you're pedaling again.
When you do start pedaling, a reinforced heel stabilizer helps to hold your foot in place, ensuring you don't lose any power on challenging ascents, while the shoe's asymmetrical collar protects the vulnerable inner ankles from bumps and bruises. For the times technical terrain necessitates a dismounting, the lugged rubber outsoles on the SH-M200's provide reliable grip until you can start pedaling again.
