Description

Rip it up with this reliable shoe on your side.

The Shimano Men’s SH-M086L Bike Shoe’s fiberglass-reinforced outsole provides burly durability while increasing pedal efficiency. A micro-adjustable buckle helps you fine tune your fit while two hook-and-loop straps secure your foot in place. Shimano included a roomier toe box for more comfort on those long ride days. Whether a gnarly section makes you hike or you just want to hang out with pals afterward, the M086L’s beefy rubber tread gives you reliable traction.

Since this is a two-hole variety of SPD, can I use it with non-SPD pedals? I need some biking shoes, but I'm not yet certain I want to use the SPD. This shoe would have all the other qualities a biking shoe normally has, without necassarily having to snap it onto the pedal, correct?

Responded on

This shoe will work without clipping in, but there are a few other options that you may want to consider:

Get them

Had 5 rides with them so far this winter. Great shoe! Got for 45$, pretty good deal.

Nice shoe, not a fan of the buckle

Shoe fits well, no slippage on the heel, which is a common problem for me. The buckle makes it more difficult to get a winter bootie over it, so this will be a fair weather shoe. Sole is grippy and the styling is nice in black and white. I use Crank Bros. cleats, and do not need the shim to raise the cleat.

How durable is the ratchet on the upper strap?
I take 8.5 US; woudl the 42 or 43 be more comfortable spinning?

Responded on

The ratchet is very durable. I had a crash over rocks, which left a scar over the leather and ratchet/straps. It's still holding up fine. No problem with the ratcheting mechanism.

Responded on

That depends on what you mean by "durable". I've had these shoes as my commuter for about a year and a half and have had to replace the ratchet once.

Do these shoes run true to size? I'm concerned about purchasing online. I wear a size 48 and my feet are typically wider that most. Do these run very narrow?

Responded on

Yes they are true to size and as far as the width they are wider than higher end Shimano Models but not considered Wide. For 2011 this shoe will be available in a wide version and that should be available in Nov.

Responded on

Jim,
I recently purchased a pair of M076s and they fit very well. I normally wear a 45 and am a EE width. My first pair of shoes were Shimanos but were dreadfully narrow, so I've stayed away from them for years. The last pair I purchased were PIs and assumed that they would be wider than the Shimanos. The salesman at REI said that Shimano used to produce quite narrow shoes but now they are one of the widest.

Responded on

They are true to size with roomy toe-box area. However, they also offer these in a WIDE version (if you can find them). The regular width shoes are pretty roomy.

NOVA Rider

Wide shoe for my wide, low instep feet, true to length. Insoles are crap, replace them with quality ones - like SuperFeet. Not as stiff as Sidi, but more comfortable when walking. Good all-around, light shoe that doesn't break the bank.

Great shoe

Great shoe! Great aggressive tread, lightweight, and very breathable. Stiff sole, yet very comfortable: you won't even know you're wearing a bike shoe.

What is the difference between 2 hole MTB and 2 hole SPD?

I take an RPM class, and the pedals require a 2 hole SPD cleat. Are these shoes compatable?

Best Answer Responded on

No difference. SPD is a shimano trademark so many times 2 hole cleat setup is refered to as MTB. These will work for you so, Spin away.

How do these stand up to water damage??

These hold true to Shimano's standards.....I had a contract with shimano in Holland and it rained every day I was there. They held up like champs, and these shoes are no different!
