Why We Like The AM7 Mountain Bike Shoes

The Shimano AM7 Mountain Bike Shoes graced many flat-loving feet last year, but left many of us clipless loving riders sitting on the sidelines, jealous of the stile and versatility the shoes provided. Not to worry, this year the new AM7 shoes come in with sleek updates, and cleat compatibility for increased pedaling power up punchy climbs and maneuvering through tight tree lines.

The uppers on the AM7 got a refreshing step up this year, while still using Shimano's durable synthetic leather, but opening up mesh panels for breathability, and omitting the lace-guard that trapped heat in on toasty days, leaving our feet feeling all too warm inside. Now we find a comfortable breeze gracing our toes to fight hot-foot and keep us hammering up and down trails all day. Another change occurred at the ankle, adding the same stretch mesh that you'll find on the SH-ME7's adding a cuff that keeps rocks and trail debris from making its way into your shoe mid ride. Inside, you'll find largely the same construction, with the same fit and supportive insole to keep your arch and heel feeling good all day. The sole uses the same Vibram rubber as last year's flat version, but with the additional recessed cleat mount that sits out of the way for when hiking a bike is a must, allowing you to enjoy the same tacky traction as before, when the rubber hits the trail.

This is a cool shoe with 1 major flaw

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This for the most part is great. The shoe isn't super bulky, fairly light, has a sturdy toe box for kicking rocks, and the ankle gaiter does a great job at keeping pebbles and such out of your shoe. HOWEVER, the upper lace eyelet his ripped all the way through on two separate pairs of these shoes for me. What is the point of a lace-up shoe that you can not lace it up? Shimano, please reinforce all of the lace eyelets not just the most distal eyelet. Thanks!
