Not quite there yet.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Shoes look great and are very light, however, I feel that the shoes don't meet my expectations of what this shoe should be.
Pros: looks, lightweight, a bit higher up than skate-style shoes.
Cons: too flexible, no heel counter, no half-sizes, less "beefy"construction than competitors, footbed/insole is poor.

For the cleat compatible version, you want the:

Good shoes, watch the sole wear?!

I rode a pair of these exclusively for the past four months on pinned pedals. The shoes started off very stiff, almost like a clipless shoe, but softened nicely over time, in the end they were about as stiff as a new pair of Impacts; Impacts get softer too, so these are firmer than Impacts by 25% or so. The only downside to these shoes is that the Vibram sole wore very badly at the pins. I ride Nuke Proof Electrons which have socket head screws for pins, they are sharp, but not any more than a typical pinned pedal. I literally wore craters into the soles at the inside and outside pins, this was riding 3-4 x week for only three months! When I say craters, I mean like rubber nibs gone, holes carved into the flat midsole 1/4-3/8" deep. My LBS is contacting Shimano about a replacement pair, so maybe I'll get a round two with these shoes. Other than the sole wear, they are my favs hands down, putting the Impacts to shame in all areas, better sole stiffness, better sole contact, sticky when they need to be, ankle and toe protection, lace cover, nice fit (I'm a 13, I took 48).

As good as the last model?

I don't have these yet, but I've been wearing the previous model almost every day for the last two years and they've held up spectacularly. I can only imagine that these will last just as long. Sizing is a little to the larger size. I wear a 10 to 10 1/2 and my foot is quite wide, these in a size 45 are perfect. Can't wait to swap out the old pair for these.

Great shoes for flat pedals!

These shoes rip for flat pedals! The vibram soles are really sticky, but not too soft and squishy like the 5-10's. I own the 5-10's and they are great for DHing, but I wanted something a little less burly for pedaling my all mountain rig. But, I'd almost prefer these to my 5-10's on my DH rig as well. The mid height padded inside gives you some ankle protection, and also support. The soles are very stiff, but feel good when you have to hike, or hit the bar for some beers after your ride. I really like the lace covers too, they keep your laces from getting trashed. I owned the previous models and they lasted 2 seasons, I'd definitely recommend these to someone looking for a superior shoe for your flats.
