Description

Clip in.

Whether you're stepping up your two-wheeled game and clipping into the bicycle for the first time, Shimano PD-M530 MTB SPD Pedal will connect you to your two wheeled steed for years to come. These easy to adjust pedals will take you across miles of singletrack or down the street to work.

The larger, but not huge, platform  is great for cross country mountain biking, with a more stable platform through rocky sections. Dual-sided entry for quick entry and exit means you won't be nancing around the trail head trying to flip your pedals over so you can clip in. The sealed cartridge bearing spindle requires minimal maintenance and provides buttery smooth action. The design of the pedal also sheds mud efficienty so you don't miss a beat after jumping obstacles in your next 'cross race. The adjustability of the cleat retention system makes it easy to get the exact tension you need for your riding style.

The Shimano PD-M530 MTB SPD Pedal are compatible with two bolt SPD cleats only. Cleats are included with these pedals.

Great for the price.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These work just as they should for a pedal at this price. Never had an issue with them. Ive had a couple sets of them now and never had issues.

Anyone know what the weight for these...

Anyone know what the weight for these pedals is? I'm not weight-weeny or anything. Just comparing.

Looks like 455g.

Great to ride loose

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

cranked them down to make it easy to snap out and it. Makes for just the right amount a resistance to get out quickly. I was always a bit nervous with clipless, in constant fear of the bike chasing me down a fall. However, these are easy in and out, and you can easily ride them without cleats if you wanna race down to grab some beer on a Friday night but are too lazy to throw on your mountain bike shoes.

Wear and tear scratches after just few rides.

Dual purposes pedal

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love Shimano SPD and have them on all my bikes but I have hard tail bike which a friend borrow when they are in town and they need normal pedal. I decided to get the PD-M530 so I can use it with my Shimano SPD shoe and my friend can also use the pedal with normal shoes. That way, I don't have to switch pedal each time someone borrow my bike. My only complain is that it is heavy and scratches easily.

A little heavy, but great value

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These pedals are typically my go to as they are realistically really cheap, they always work, and take a lot to break them. They offer a good range of tension for your cleats, especially if you are learning on clipless and want a really easy action to get your feet out. The only downside is that they are a bit on the heavy side, but easy to live with based on price.

My price range

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My first clip-in pedals, so I didn't want to break the bank. They have worked really well.

Good Deal

While I haven't been using these long enough to comment on the long term durability, they seem like they will last awhile. It is nice being able to adjust the tension of clipping in and out. It is a must for first time clipless users, so they can build up their confidence and increase the tension as they become more confident. They are a heck of a good buy considering how cheap they are and the beatings they appear to be able to take. I'm not saying they are the best pedals out there, but for the price they are wonderful.

Confidence builders

These pedals provide smooth, easily adjustable spring tension. Their easy in, easy out dynamic has helped build my confidence as a clipless rider.

good stuff

These get the job done. You can loosen or tighten the tension to make it easier or harder to click out of the pedals as you progress. They also have a big enough platform that i can ride with my tennis shoes on and cruise around town to a friends house.

it says it in the discription but do they come with the shoes\cleats?

Responded on

They come with the cleats, yes. As for shoes, just make sure you have the two bolt plate on the bottom of your shoe to mount the cleats.

Near hi-end performance Not hi-end price

Incredible value for $$$ when compared to the XT/ XTR. True that latter 2 pedals offer better finishes, quality materials, & smoother performance. Tried all 3 & the M530s low price tag, unnoticeable difference in operations won me over. Love the larger platform on the M530s, as it offers ample surface contact to your shoe when unclipped - very useful on rocky sections of the trail. Over the course of 7 years of biking, I've only gone through 3 Shimano SPD pedals... and I'm sure the M530s will last a year or 2 of trail bashing.

Good but don't expect XTRs

These were my first clipless pedals after many years of platforms and clips. They work just fine and I got my confidence in them built up pretty quick. I really had no issues with them until I bought a used bike that had XTR M980 pedals on it. The XTRs work smoother and easier, but its the difference between a $30 pedal made in China or Taiwan and a $170-$270 (depending on where you buy) pedal made in Japan. I think the performance of the M530 is pretty good for someone looking to try their first clipless pedal or for a clipless pedal on a budget.

3 5

Ehhh?

What do you expect? For less than $50 bucks you get less than $50 performance. This pedal reminds me of why I stopped riding SPDs years ago. I had hoped that Shimano had made significant improvements over the years but I guess that just isn't the case unless you get their higher end pedals. For the price they are a good option for recreation and cruises but not much more.

Great Pedal... Very smooth entry & exit.

This is a great solid pedal. Allows easy in and easy out. I've had them for about a month, and they have been on many rides now, and so far no complaints.

love these

I was using eggbeaters and I bought these because I wanted a larger platform and adjustability. They are easy to clip in and out of and they are a great price, I am very happy.

Good Pedals

I have these on my 29er and use them with the Van's Warner spd's. Platform is just big enough to enable unclipped riding for whenever you want out. Easy to adjust and affordable.
