Description

For long rides and short trips.

The Shimano PD-A530 SPD Road Dual Platform Bike Pedal makes the ideal choice for your around-town bike that sees both long rides to work and short trips to the store. An SPD cleat on one side lets you clip in when you leave the house for your 40-minute morning bike commute, and the platform side lets you hop on with your regular shoes for a quick coffee run.

First Pair of Clip Ins

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these, because I already use SPDs for spin class and wanted a pedal that could double as a platform. After a couple of jaunts around town and longer rides in which I clipped in, I can confidently say that these are great for beginner road bikers and commuters.

They come with SPD hardwear for your shoes.

Does this come with hardware for cycling shoes, to clip them in? Or, if it needs to be purchased separately, what accessory do I need to my shoes?

Responded on

Yes, it comes with an extra set of clips for your shoes.

Want to use this pedal on my Raleigh Clubman Road Bike, what is a moderatley priced road bike show that will work with this type of cleat type. I want to get a pair of Giro Treble shoes but they have a 3 hole road cleat type. Is there an adapter?

Responded on

No there isn't an adapter. You have to find the right shoe for the closing that go in. It's all personal preference in the shoes.

Trying to decide between this pedal and the PD-M324. What is different about the 2, and why would I choose one over the other? Also, as I understand it the M324 comes with a multidirectional-release cleat. Does this also?

Best Answer Responded on

The 324 is geared more towards use with a rubber-lugged mountain bike or indoor cycling shoe. The A-530 is designed to be used with that shoe as well as an spd compatible road shoe. If you are doing mainly road riding go with the A-530, if you plan to take these off road or using a spin bike go with the 324.

They both come with the multi-directional release cleat.

Hope that helps, enjoy!

good for clipped or regular shoes

Good pedals, they are really good for your commuter bike to work, store, park and the bar. The clip works great and if you don't feel like clipping today, you can totally sport these with sandals with no problem.

If I get this pedal, which of one of these do I need? http://www.backcountry.com/store/SHI0122/Shimano-America-SPD-Cleat-Sets.html

And will any 3 hole-road compatible shoes be able to take those cleats?

Responded on

It is pretty standard for pedals to come with cleats.

Normal SPD cleats like the ones that would come with these would not go onto a 3 hole shoe, you need a 2 hole compatible shoe.

If you want new cleats get the 51s for road biking and get the 56s for mountain

Is this pedal and cleat compatable with the Shimano SH-RW40 Women's shoe? That is the shoe I am looking to buy and want to ensure I get one that is compatable with the pedal I'm looking at also buying. Thanks,

Responded on

I am not familiar with that exact shoe but this pedal is compatible with only standard spd 2-hole shoes. So if there are two holes on the shoe, Yes. If there are three holes in a triangle setup only, No.

I'm fairly new to cycling and am looking for a clipless pedal that is real easy to get in and out of, do these fit that bill? I have to make about 3-4 stops on the route I ride for the cross roads and need to be able to easily get out off the pedal, at least while learning to ride in clipless pedals, so I don't fall over.

Responded on

Yes, these will be good for learning. Even easier to learn on would be a double sided entry pedal, where you just have to step down and not worry about which side of the pedal is facing up. Most platform style road pedals are single sided so if you get used to this then you should be able to transition to another platform pedal pretty easily.

Responded on

This is a good pedal if you would like the option not to wear cycling specific shoes all the time. It also is good for beginning cyclist who are learning to clip-in and out so they can use the platform at stops and start or in sticky situations.

will these shoes fit with this pedal?...

will these shoes fit with this pedal? Shimano SH-RO75 Road Bike Shoe.. sorry im a noob

Responded on

No, this pedal takes SPD cleats and the shoes you mention are SPD-SL ready. The 2 cleat systems have different mounting bolt patterns. The SPD are used more for off-road and the SPD-SL are used for the road. I use the SPD-SL and they work fine. If you already have the shoes, the pedal you are looking for is the PD-SL540. The cleats will come with the pedal.
