Description

Stay aerodynamic while shifting.

With the introduction of Shimano's latest Di2 groups, you have the option of running a myriad of supplemental electronic shifters on your bars. For time trial and triathlon setups, riders now have the advantage of adding Shimano's Di2 TT Remote Switch SW-9071 shifters out front for an extended aero bar shifting position.

The shifters themselves were engineered with one button for each shifter, which control the rear derailleur only. They were designed to work as satellite shifters for your aero bar extensions, in conjunction with dual control levers mounted to your base bars. This gives you rear shifting control regardless of your hand position up front, meaning you can remain in your optimal riding position without removing your hands from the extensions just to make a shift.

Shimano designed the new Di2 TT Remote Switch SW-9071 shifters to work seamlessly with its new Di2 groups, which means they will need to run directly into its E-Tube Cockpit Junction Box. The small junction box mounts directly below the handlebar, and makes it so that no additional wiring or setup procedure is required to add your supplemental shifters. The Junction Box is available in two versions: the SM-EW90-A, with three ports, and SM-EW90-F, with five ports.

The Shimano Di2 TT Remote Switch SW-9071 shifters include built-in E-Tube wires that route directly into the Cockpit Junction Box.

Di2 Reference Guide

Note: This reference is meant to be used as a guide for creating a Shimano Di2 drivetrain package. For further assistance please feel free to give us a call.

Battery and Wires:

Our Shimano Di2 packages are built for three standard configurations based on battery location and wire routing. First, you'll need to determine if your frame uses an internal or external battery mount, and whether the routing is either internal or external. Below is a guide for which battery, charger, mount, and junction boxes are required for your configuration.

Battery Mounts:

The SM-BMR2 battery mount is available in three configurations -- Long External, Short External, and Long Internal. Both Long versions are to be mounted using the bottle cage mounts, while the Short version is designed for Di2-specific frames with either a chainstay or down tube mounting location.

Junctions:

There are two junctions needed for completing your Di2 build -- A and B.  Junction A, SM-EW90, is located at the handlebars and available in both three- and five-port options. The three-port option is intended for standard shifting with a left and right hand shifter. If you have the intention of using Shimano's satellite sprint shifters, or a combination of time trial shifters and shifter/brake levers, the five-port junction box will be the necessary selection.

Depending on your frame specification, Junction B (SM-JC40 or SM-JC41) is located either internally or externally at the bottom bracket area. Accordingly, SM-JC41 is designed for frames with internal wire routing, while SM-JC40 is intended for external wiring options.

E-Tube Wires:

For your convenience, we've created wire packages for your Di2 build kit in the sizes Small, Medium, and Large. Below, you'll find which wire lengths are included in each kit. Additionally, we've recommended a kit size based on your frame size.

These shifters only work in conjunction with the Di2 TT brake levers having the integrated shifters. This is because these shifters have only ONE button on each bar end. I have the HED corsair bars with the integrated brake levers, so once installed these levers would shift my Di2 9070 rear derailleur up and down, but we could not shift the front derailleur whatsoever. Came to learn that what is needed in a case like this is the Ultegra SHI0651 bar end shifters, which have 2 buttons. I am not sure why Shimano assumed we would always want to go to our brake levers to shift our front derailleur, but anyway, these are only meant to be secondary/satellite in function for your TT bike.

p.s. - I bought these as part of an overall bike order and specifically to suit the previously purchased HED cockpit. I had help from customer service in making the right choice, but in fairness the info I gave is pretty clear in the part description up above. These do function properly for moving the rear derailleur, without a doubt, just make sure you know what you need before ordering.
