Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 System Checker $0.00
The Shimano Di2 SM-EC79 System Checker/Programmer is akin to the computers that automotive garages plug into cars to find the problem if it's not running correctly. This diagnostic tool does two things: One is isolate and find problems that you can't diagnose because the shifters aren't responding to adjustments you can affect without the tool. The second thing it does is re-program the shift functions. This is great if you haven't been able to get the buttons to work the way you want them to -- as in, you want the downshift button to shift up and the upshift button to shift down. You can also make it so the left lever handles the rear derailleur and the right the front. Yeah, crazy. We know.
Shimano figures that the unit will mainly go in pro workshops, but we're sure there are at least a few of you who want this for your home shop. The tool is roughly twice as big as the battery dock. It comes with a wire continuity checker (the part that looks similar to a battery), a shifting switch checker (the part that has the two switch buttons), and the cable removal tool, TL-EW01, to separate the wiring from the component pieces. Your Di2 battery needs to be charged to do the system checks, as this is what powers the unit. The diagnosis happens one piece at a time, and you have to plug in each component item individually. Just remember: as you do your diagnostics, a green light always equals good-to-go.
- System Checker offers the ability to change the functions of the rear derailleur and switches to either a “low normal” or “high normal”
