Triathlons are races like no other, and the task-specific nature of triathlon equipment makes that abundantly clear. That's why Selle Italia gave its SLR Tri Gel Saddle a host of features that separate it from its road-racing ancestor. The shell remains the same, but the heavily padded nose is optimized for aggressively aerodynamic positions.
Selle Italia starts off with the standard SLR saddle base, which is built from a carbon-reinforced nylon composite. It incorporates a 30% blend of carbon fiber, providing plenty of rigidity and stability. However, the nylon composition still allows enough flex in order for the saddle to absorb road vibration that would otherwise leave you numb and tingling. The 131mm tail provides generous support for those of us with mid-width sit bones. And the comfort gets an added boost from a supple, yet supportive gel padding.
In adopting an aerodynamic position, and to counter UCI and ITU regulations, most riders shift their weight forward on the saddle. For this reason, the SLR Tri gets most of its padding added to the nose. Furthering the triathlon-specific nature of the saddle, the Lorica cover was not only chosen for its durability, but also for its quick-drying nature. This reduces the amount of time that you'll spend wet after T1, while subsequently limiting the risk of chafing. Additionally, Selle Italia's Vanox Tube rails are durable enough for mountain bike use, which is particularly useful given the uneven distribution of pressure that's generated from the time trial position.
The Selle Italia SLR Tri Gel Saddle is available in 131x275mm size and in the color Black.
