Selle Italia SLR Team Edition Flow Saddle $259.95
We'll let you in on a little secret: The Selle Italia SLR Flow Saddle. The secret part is that we don't just stock the SLR on a wide variety of the road bikes we sell, but also on the road bikes we ourselves ride, because it's simply an amazing saddle. You'll see evidence of this all over the professional ranks, too. Then wrap it in a sweet black-and-white team edition covering with upgraded rails, and what do you get? A winner, called the Selle Italia SLR Team Edition Flow Saddle.
The SLR Team Edition Flow saddle features a superlight carbon fiber-reinforced nylon composite base, which gives it enough pliability and flexibility to "hammock" appropriately for comfort, while taking some shock and vibration out of the road without turning the shell into a trampoline. The shell features the same 131mm width and 275mm length as other SLRs, making it an ideal match for those with average-width sit bones. The "Flow" designation, as on all Selle Italia saddles, means this one has a moderately-sized cutout in order to relieve pressure on the perineal artery and adjacent soft tissue. As a result, that pressure is directed to your sit bones (aka, your ischial tuberosity), which are far more adept at supporting your body weight, preventing numbness and tingling during long rides.
The Team Edition differs from the rest of the SLR line through its degree of padding and new rails for 2014. As before, padding is a bit more generous than on other SLR models, but not as supple as that on the Flite or SLS series, landing it somewhere in between. The previous Vanox alloy rails have also been replaced by carbon rails, and when combined with the revised, lighter shell, a good chunk of weight is dropped compared to last year's model, this year ringing in at an extremely low 140 grams.
The Selle Italia SLR Team Edition Flow Saddle is available only in the color Black. It measures 131mm wide and 275mm long, while the carbon rails are ovalized, at 7mm wide by 9.6mm tall.
