Description

The height of anatomic design.

We know that we're not blowing any minds when we say that men aren't the same as women. However, we've found that both the quantity and quality of women's-specific saddles are, well, lacking in comparison. For this very reason, Selle Italia developed the SLR Lady Flow Saddle. It's an adaptation of the classic SLR platform, but slightly wider (4mm) in order to accommodate a woman's sit bones. It also gets a bit of extra padding, as compared to the minimalist classic upon which it's based, and Selle Italia's Super Flow anatomic cutout. The result is a saddle with the competitive drive of the original, and catered to a woman's needs.

The SLR Lady Flow is a refinement on the classic SLR Flow platform, with slight changes being made to optimize it for a woman's anatomy. The sizable, Super Flow cutout relieves pressure by directing your body's weight onto your sit bones. This way, you won't be sidelined by mid-ride discomfort. The 275mm length is unaffected, and the rear wings that support your sit bones grow to 135mm, or four millimeters in comparison to the standard SLR. Additionally, the nose also gets a touch wider, and like the cutout, it adds supports by moving your body away from pressure points. Speaking of which, there's an extra dose of padding over the standard SLR, yet you'll still find that this saddle is rather minimalist in comparison to say the Flite or SLS series.

For the base, Selle Italia chose a reinforced nylon composite that incorporates a 30% blend of carbon fiber. In turn, it produces a shell that's supportive, yet slightly flexible. At the rails, you'll find Selle Italia's Vanox, which provides a high strength-to-weight ratio. They're strong enough, in fact, that Selle Italia rates the SLR Lady Flow for mountain bike use. Speaking of which, the Lorica cover is hard wearing, whether you're dealing with fresh dirt or road spray.

The Selle Italia SLR Lady Flow Saddle is available in a 135x275 size and in the colors Black and White.

Ouch.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really, really wanted this saddle to work for me, but it didn't; I'm sure it's the right saddle for others, but not, sadly, for me. I ended up with some chaffing, but far worse, massive, massive bruising, of all things. I've never been bruised by a saddle before. The extra wide cutout was *awesome*; it completely eliminated the discomfort I had on my old saddle in one particular region. But I think the saddle wasn't wide enough for me, and maybe too hard (I've always liked minimal padding, but this was actually too minimal), leading to the aforementioned bruising and chaffing, some leg tingling (a bit of nerve pinching or irritation, I think), and, as a result of sitting strangely due to the discomfort, some knee pain. If you can take the hardness of the saddle and if the width's OK, I'd recommend it; it's nice and light, and the super wide cutout is fantastic. But it just totally didn't work for me, more's the pity.

Made for me.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Ordered this saddle and was hesitant about the lack of cushioning and large cut out. But wow. The saddle sits perfectly (for me). It wouldn't be great for shorter rides, but the comfort level you get when you first sit on is the same after hours and hours of riding. Stiff and non-intrusive and no problems with numbness or tingling or sores or anything that comes from non-quite-right saddle. I will never ride with another saddle on my road bike, and I'm contemplating putting one on my mountain bike. Every butt is different but this is the perfect saddle for me.

Too hard

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I too tried this seat because of the larger cutout. Unfortunately it was too hard for me. I rode on it several weeks thinking I might adjust but I never did. It was actually causing pain down my legs from sitting on the nerve I guess. It is well made and good quality just not for me. But my husband has the mens version and loves it. I will be going back to my Terry seat. It is great Competitive Cyclist lets you try out equipment and return if needed. I will keep doing business with them just couldn't use the seat.

SLR Lady Flow Saddle OUCH

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I decided to try the SLR Lady Flow Saddle because of the larger cutout, as compared to the Lady Gel Flow Diva which I am currently riding. While the larger cutout certainly proved comfortable, the lack of padding did me in. After 20 miles in the SLR I knew I was in big trouble. The pain in my seatbones was intense. I am on the thin side, so maybe my lack of natural padding didn't help matters. One of the deciding factors in choosing this model was also the weight. It is listed at 185 gms. However, the packaging clearly states 200 gms? Every gram counts, so whats up w the difference on the CC site vs the product? Not as represented:(

Have you found a better saddle yet, or going back to the Diva saddle? Looking for a great saddle for my first Cross bike (Specialized Expert Red, on order)...ordered the Diva Gel Flow (also on order), from the specs it sound pretty good (not competing in races)...what's your thoughts on that saddle?

Will check back later...and thanks.
