If you’ve seen your mountain bike friends using these neat Scorpion Stands, and want to have one to fit your road bike, look no further than the Scorpion Road Bike Stand. It uses the same clever design developed for mountain bikes but is more accommodating of the small diameters found on hollow road bike crank spindles.

Anyone familiar with motocross may recognize the inspiration behind the Scorpion. The inventor is a former motocross rider who segued into mountain biking and wanted the same sort of stand to work on his bikes. Pays to be a tinkerer, because he was able to throw together what he wanted in his California workshop. The best designs are always the simplest. The Scorpion stand is compatible with many hollow-spindle road bike cranks including SRAM, Rotor/FSA, Specialized OS Carbon, and Cannondale SL Hollogram. The stand comes prepared with adapters to help you fit as many different hollow-spindle cranks as possible.

  • Compatible with SRAM, Rotor/FSA, Specialized OS Carbon, and Cannondale SL Hollogram cranks
  • Adapters included

Like a Champ

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Was super excited to pick one of these up as I've been looking for an alternative to leaning against my car. It works great with the SRAM stuff on my bicycle, really sturdy. It's a little bulky as a result of the sturdiness but from others that are smaller or fold I'll deal with it's size. I've used it in light wind with deeper wheels and haven't had any worry of it tipping over.

Does not work with FSA Gossamer crank

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This stand will not hold the bike steady with a FSA Gossamer crank. The Gossamer crank on my 2014 CAAD 10 and also on my wifes 2014 Carbon Synapse is tapered and is not hollow all the way through.
Since it is not hollow all the way, the stand does not seat all they way in. Because the crank is tapered, none of the adapters will work. It will hold your bike, but it will wobble.

Great Stand

I recently picked up one of these stands for my road bike and am very pleased. The stand inserts easily into my bike crank and comes with different adapters so it covers a wide range of different sized cranks, Its fairly light weight as well so its easily transported. This works great for keeping your bike in place when washing it too. I highly recommend it!
