Description

Guilt-free speed.

Schwalbe wasn't kidding around when it named the Racing Ralph. And, as its popularity proves, this tire works wonders for XC racers and those who simply appreciate fast-rolling rubber. This 29-inch Tubeless Ready Snakeskin version takes things a step further by adding easy tubeless compatibility and a lightweight reinforced casing. So, you're able to leave your buddies in the dust -- in a friendly way, of course.

The Racing Ralph has become a tried and true favorite due to its fast-rolling tread pattern, and this third revision only improves on the classic. The centerline of the tire features low, tightly spaced knobs knobs that provide enhance traction. And, true to its name, the tightly spaced knobs help the Racing Ralph roll blisteringly fast. The side knobs are wide and supportive, meaning that they'll bite hard to keep you from washing out when you're leaned over. But, tread patterns only tell part of the story. That's why Schwalbe uses its PaceStar rubber compound, which places harder rubber down the centerline for a low rolling-resistance and an improved wear life. Additionally, the side knobs receive a softer rubber compound. So, in essence, you get the speed of a hard compound tire, mated to the cornering grip of a softer tire. This means that you don't have to sacrifice wear life for traction.

This tread pattern rests on Schwalbe's Snakeskin Tubeless Ready casing. As you may have guessed, the tubeless designation means that these are optimized for a tubeless setup, although you are able to run them with tubes if you'd like. By Tubeless Ready, Schwalbe means that the bead hook on this tire is enlarged. Why does this matter? Well, it makes seating them to a tubeless rim an easy affair. And if you've ever ended up covered in tire sealant after trying to seat a stubborn tire, this will be a welcomed improvement. The second part of this designation, the Snakeskin casing, simply refers to the tire's durable sidewall. Basically, with the extra supportive, the tire is able to nearly eliminate the risk of pinch flats.

The Schwalbe Racing Ralph Tubeless Ready Snakeskin 29-inch tire is available in 2.25-inch width and in the color black.

Rolls great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love these tires - set them up as tubeless. Nice grip running up here in the Seattle area - this particular tire seems to be versatile for all types of terrain. They hold super well on the corners too! Competitive Cyclist took care of me when I noticed one of the tires I bought was warped. They swapped out a new one for me no problem. Great customer service and competitive prices is what keeps me coming back.

Rolls Well, Reasonibly Durable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My first set was the Racing Ralph Evo. They lasted about 4 1/2 months with with about 8 hours/week riding. They hook up nicely on the trail and roll fast on hard surfaces. My current set is the snakeskin and they seem just that bit more durable. I am running them tubeless and they ride nicely. I haven't flatted with either set. Racing Ralph seems is a good setup for a wide variety of riding.

Slashed after about 300 miles

I bought this to replace one I had for 300 miles. After running over a piece of glass I put an unrepairable slash in the tread. I feel like it would have lasted another 300 if I hadn't done that.
