The Schwalbe Hans Dampf 29-inch Tire brings the all-mountain game of its famous 27.5-inch brother to the big-wheeled court, and now no trail shall go unconquered.
The Dampf's large and widely-spaced tread blocks, robust sidewall reinforcement, and relatively low weight all make the tire a particularly aggressive entry into the world of so-called wagon wheels. A majority of bikes in this category are high-speed, cross-country focused rigs focused on racing and efficiency, while Hans has his eye on bigger, gnarlier things. Think of it as a competitor in the 800m track-and-field event throwing on a pair of army boots — the results are still pretty fast, but now only more ready to tackle a wider variety of terrain.
The tire uses Schwalbe's 67tpi casing with a three-ply layer under the tread. This SnakeSkin version of the tire has Schwalbe's puncture-resistant casing that you can easily set up tubeless, and it's made with the company's TrailStar rubber compound, which is slower-rolling but grippier than the company's less tacky PaceStar compound.
