Description

Ridiculously fast.

If the trails are dry, your skills are good, and you have a race to go win, the Schwalbe Furious Fred Tire should be your steed’s new shoes. Schwalbe stripped this tire down, leaving only the absolute essentials intact. Limited gripping ability and a lack of puncture protection limit these tires to race days, but if you’re gunning for the next level, the Furious Fred will take you there.
  • Race-specific design results in a light and fast off-road tire
  • 127 TPI carcass brings road-tire sophistication to the dirt
  • Not recommended for everyday riding; save these thoroughbreds for race day

Furiously Fast

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a race tire, pure and simple. If you're not running a number plate there is little need for this tire. It rolls extremely fast, is incredibly light and accelerates quickly. This comes at the expense of braking traction and flat prevention. If you are a "late braker" you'll find this tire cannot adequately bite under braking loads and may require longer distances to slow down. But, if you manage your speed and avoid hitting the binders full noise it carries speed very well. Because the rotational weight is very low it spins up quickly, a couple of pedal strokes and this thing is whizzing. This tire has surprising cornering traction, the side lugs hold pretty well if you set up for the corner well.

If you're riding in sharp rocks or anywhere that can compromise your sidewall this may not be a training tire or daily driver. the sidewalls are very thin. But if you need an advantage for a race, this may be the tire for you.

are these tubeless? UST or TCS?

Responded on

they are not ust but as with most all shwalbe tires a proper ust rim or a stans rimstrip and theyl save u the hassle of tubes most every tire that guex makes as long as it says tnt on it wich i think all there new line do is ust and way underated tire company in my opinion hutchinson makes ine tire for tbless aplication as well just keep an eye on the weights some of the ust tires that weigh over 650 then theres no sense ur lloosing more than u gain more weight =more rolling resistance the smart sam is a fine choice if youre lookinf for an xc tire and they dont weigh all to much either just my too cents

Hey there Speedy,
As the review says, "Schwalbe stripped this tire down, leaving only the absolute essentials intact. Limited gripping ability and a lack of puncture protection limit these tires to race days". That said it is not a rated ust or tubeless ready, but if its a race day tire, well, all bets are off. I will be picking up a set of these to go mobbin' in moab. Should be an exceptional tire on the slick rock (big volume and minimal tread). I'll probably run them tubeless for the heck of it. I'll post when I return, but I will be packing spare tubes for sure.
