It didn't take long for the 2015 Santa Cruz Bronson Carbon C Mountain Bike Frame to earn a reputation as the go-to enduro race whip with an ability to absorb hits like a much slacker machine. Built to pair with 27.5in wheels, the Bronson brings together the nimbleness of a 26er and the speed of a 29er as a race-worthy machine ready to tackle every mountain and valley.

Santa Cruz's industry-leading carbon fiber construction surfaces in the Bronson Carbon C, although this version uses a slightly lower grade of carbon fiber than the higher-end Carbon CC frame. This requires more material to achieve the same strength, so it carries a bit more weight, but in every other aspect it’s held to the same standards as Santa Cruz's Carbon CC frames. The upshot is that you get a frame that’s every bit as stiff and strong with a much more palatable price tag.

The frame's two carbon triangles are built as whole pieces rather than glued together from disparate bits. This saves weight and increases structural integrity by allowing Santa Cruz to wrap carbon continuously through and around key junctures. This method reinforces the frame with less material while eliminating the artificial stress points that result from bonded construction methods. Finally, the carbon is also compacted from the inside and the outside for a more even finish that avoids any structural defects, excess material build-up, or resin pooling for additional weight savings.

At the heart of the Bronson is a highly refined VPP suspension platform that's been optimized for mid-sized wheels. It's a suspension platform that's widely beloved among riders in-the-know for its blend of pedaling efficiency and trail-erasing smoothness, properties that mean you'll rarely leave the medial trail setting of FOX's Float CTD shock. VPP employs two aluminum counter-rotating links to achieve this balance. The upper link provides most of the rotation as the bike compresses into the sag point. This yields a vertical wheel path, which you'll notice in the form of a firm feel during acceleration.

As the bike compresses deeper into the suspension, the lower link activates, moving the axle path rearward. The rearward axle path enables the rear wheel to travel out of the way of impacts. So, the ride remains smooth, not jarring. You'll also find the same collet-style pivot hardware that's become standard for Santa Cruz's suspension bikes. This means that your pivots stay tight and are easily serviceable at home if ever necessary.
