Low weight and long legs.

Even if you're not going to enter a race, weight is still a key detractor from off-road leisure time. The Santa Cruz Blur LT Carbon Mountain Bike Frame not only benefits from reduced mass -- close to a pound less than aluminum counter parts -- it also receives enhanced stiffness. And this, along with longer legs, offers superior trail manners over dedicated XC race bikes.

The secret to the Blur LT's class leading weight-to-strength ratio is Santa Cruz's proprietary carbon processes. The front triangle of the Blur LT Carbon is constructed as once piece, rather than having components produced separately and then bonded or wrapped. Additionally, the carbon fibers are continuous around the tube junctions for improved distribution of load and impact energy absorption.

Not just concerned with the mirror, the frame looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside -- there's nothing there except for smooth carbon. And just like the Blur XC Carbon, there are no riveted or bonded-on cable and hose guides, as they're incorporated into the original layup. The stiff carbon chassis is paired with the latest generation Virtual Pivot Point rear suspension.

The upper and lower links flatten out the shock rate and provide a more active feel to the early end of the axle path. The suspension allows the rear wheel to move up and back as you ride over a bump, and it balances the downward force of pedaling with the pulling force of the chain through its link configuration and axle path. The resulting movement makes it easier to roll over a bump or through a dip, and the suspension doesn't change whether you’re in the saddle or not.

The Blur LT has a carbon fiber upper link shaves weight and enhances lateral stiffness. It's counterpart on the bottom is alloy, and it has easily-serviceable grease ports. The pivots for both links have beefy, 15mm locking collet axle-pins that eliminate creaking and loosening. They also run on intricately-sealed bearings that will last the life of the frame.

The VPP suspension of the Santa Cruz Blur LT Carbon yields 140mm of smooth travel, damped by a FOX CTD rear shock with Kashima coating -- a lightweight, reliable shock that features an intuitive interface for simple, on-the-fly suspension tuning. It has three distinct settings -- a firm 'Climbing' setting, a medium 'Trail' setting, and a plush 'Descent' setting. This keeps operation straightforward and intuitive for experts and beginners alike.

Given its all-mountain intent, the frame is designed to best handle with forks from 140 to 160mm of travel. The rear triangle is designed to accept many 2.5in tires and offers generous clearance on 2.35in widths. And because you're bound to kick up some trail projectiles, the lower part of the down tube is wrapped in a leather protector.

A similar protector covers the chainstay to protect from chain-slap. The Santa Cruz Blur LT Carbon has a 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 inch tapered head tube. And like all of Santa Cruz's bikes, it has a user-friendly, 73mm threaded bottom bracket shell. The rear dropout accepts a 12x142mm thru-axle, and a DT Swiss thru-axle comes with the bike. IS brake mounts make adding your favorite brakes a breeze. You'll need to pair the frame with a 30.9mm seatpost, and it requires a direct-mount front derailleur. The frame has a two year warranty against manufacturing defects, while the bearings are guaranteed for life.

The Santa Cruz Blur LT Carbon Mountain Bike Frame is available in four sizes from Small to X-Large and in the colors Gloss Red and Matte Carbon/silver.
