It’s all about the details

It's hard not to smile when you see Salsa skewers. With their bright bursts of color, they're simply a pleasant sight on any bike. After all, the original incarnation of Salsa was run by a guy who always found a way to make bike parts fun. The Salsa Stainless Flip-Offs Skewers first came about when everyone else was 'super serious' about shaving grams. So, keeping with the tongue-and-cheek title, the original Flip-offs were advertised as 'Light. Functional. Expensive.' It was a jab at the 'slow' releases that some of the ultralight skewer sets really were. The levers came in a variety of anodized colors, including the mixed-color 'Rasta' set.

Designed for your front or full-suspension bike, the Flip-Off Skewers haven't lost their purpose throughout the years. Nowadays, Salsa has taken on a more progressive edge, but the vibe of fun is still there, and the skewers are still great. The lever has a sculpted look that is both elegant and makes opening and closing the lever easy. The rods on this set are stainless steel, and while not as light as titanium, Salsa doesn't recommend titanium rods on suspension bikes.

The Salsa Stainless Flip-Offs Skewers are available as a pair in one size and in the colors Pewter, Purple, Orange, Silver, Red, Green, Blue, and Black.

Here's what others have to say...

Are you skewers long enough for a Fat Bike front and rear?

Responded on

They are NOT long enough. You need the Salsa Fatbike specific ones.

I've seen them on Backcountry before, but I don't see them now. Maybe they are restocking them?!

Great Solid Skewers

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have tried the super lightweight skewers and they don't have enough clamping power for me on the rear wheel, causing it to slip. I decided I would rather have a really strong skewer at the penalty of a few non-rotational grams. The Salsa skewers are beautiful, but I have to say I liked the look of the older finish better. It was a bit more raw and you could see the machining. The new finish has a softer look to it with rounded edges and a different texture. That is the only complaint I have about the skewers, and it is completely up to personal taste. I'm currently using Salsa skewers on mountain, road, and cross bikes. Love 'em.

Salsa is the goodness.

The colors are abundant and they last. Been using multiple pairs on multiple bikes over the years with no probs whatsoever. Get a pair. Be happy. Your bike sure will be.

Flashes and the shiny nature of these guys make taking a photo difficult. I wanted to provide a photo different from Salsa site to show. These are the skewers without flash. Depending on the light these are in, they can range from more dull to bright.

Solved My Problem

These skewers are a huge improvement over my stock skewers. These made the upgrade to hydraulic discs totally worth it. No more wheel slippage. Also the vibrant colors add some nice accents to the bike.

I'm not sure what "one size" means on the salsa skewers. Will these fit 135 mtn bike size rear? Thanks

Responded on

Hi Aglade,
These will fit 135mm axle. The skewers are threaded for a long enough section that you can really tighten them down. You can even saw of any excess for a more narrow axle.
