Over the mountain the and through the woods.

A proud member of Salomon's much-loved X family of trail-bred running shoes, the XA Pro 3D CS WP Women's Trail Running Shoe stays true its lineage with rugged construction, plenty of cushioning, and loads of support. The XA Pro's also been decked out with a waterproof and breathable ClimaShield membrane, so soggy days on the trail won't be a trial for your feet. The synthetic upper, which features Salomon's Sensifit construction and 3D Advanced Chassis, provides plenty of lightweight support to keep your ankles safe on rugged terrain, while the EVA midsole, EVA footbed, and molded shank serve up loads of cushioning. The Ortholite sockliner hugs your foot like it's in love. Topping (or bottoming) the XA Pro off is the Contagrip non-marking rubber sole, which grips like super glue, a gusseted tongue to keep dirt and debris where it belongs, and a Quicklace system for a precise and pressure-point-free fit.

All around great for trails and town

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

They took about a week to full break in but now they are great. My one wish is I wish I could cinch them tighter for trails that have looser dirt and need more foot control or when I am out working on trails and need more foot stability. I can get them pretty tight in the top foot but I wish it could get more snug in the heel.

My one recommendation would be when you first get the shoes make sure to wear at least ankle socks to cover your heal and Achilles completely. My first day I took them for a nice long walk and about a half mile back to home I realized it had rubbed my Achilles to bleeding but once that was done they have been great and I am happy I purchased them. They have great tread, are just stiff enough that if you hit a rock or root or something it doesn't jar your foot or leg, and they are great even when worn as an every day shoe.

Stiff, a bit larger than expected

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

They are stiff, and having high arches and narrow feet, they aren't flexible enough for the type of foot I have. I need something more neutral, like the older Salomon's I own. If you have flat wide feet, the increased structure should be fine for you. They also didn't hug my feet, and the heel kept slipping. The lacing system had to be tightened several times, and doesn't seem to hold as well as in the older Salomons. I did wear them on a longer hike and my feet weren't sore, so I'll wear them with thicker socks and save them for more moist terrain and hope they mold more to my feet. Mystic Purple looks great and ground grip is fine. They kept my feet dry without being as warm as the older Goretex, so that's a plus.

This shoe is so stiff I could never wear it- not the same as Speedcross, which is much better. This runs very large- it's a full size smaller than my normal size.
