Hydration without irritation.

Nothing will make you bonk like running through dehydration, so be sure to stay well-oiled with the Salomon Advanced Skin S-Lab Skin3 5 Hydration Pack Set. Salomon's form-fitting, ergonomic, and chafe-free Motion Fit technology keeps the Hydro 5 riding smoothly while you run. This vest-style pack comes with two 17oz soft flasks with soft bite valves that sit in easy-to-reach chest pockets. Not only is it bounce-free, but it's made with stretchy, breathable, and moisture-wicking Elastic Power Mesh that conforms to your body and buckle-free soft trims that reduce friction and chafing, making long runs that much better.

The Twin Link sternum adjustment system eliminates pressure points and eases breathing, and a 4D pole holder makes it easy to stash your sticks once you've navigated the roughest terrain and are cruising down the home stretch. There's a bladder-ready hydration sleeve, and a plethora of smaller stash pockets make carrying gels, gloves, a headlamp, and a wind jacket no big deal. Salomon is looking out for your safety, too, designing the Hydro 5 with reflective trim, a safety whistle, and an included space blanket to keep you warm if you wander off the trail and end up spending a night in the woods.

This is listed xxs. Does that mean s/xs or extra extra small. I don't even see that option on the salmon website.

Hey Daniel,

the XXS is considered an extra extra small. An XSS would be an extra small/small. Let me help you find the right hydration system by emailing me at bsneyd@backcountry.com

It's truly rare that company makes a product like this that is explicitly designed for racing. From material choice to the ergonomics - the enormous amount of R&D that went into this pack is evident. If you've ever wondered why so many people love this pack but were hesitant to pull the trigger because of price, do yourself a favor and take the plunge. You will not be disappointed. It's light enough to carry on a marathon but has enough space for all-day mountain runs, too - and no matter how much stuff you pack into it, it always feels like there's just enough room for one more thing. Truly, a remarkable piece of gear and one without equal in the marketplace.

The only thing negative I'd point out at this point, if you're going to be racing with this pack, is the soft flasks that come with the pack have super small mouths. That is, in the middle of a race, when you're sweaty, the small mouths can be tough to twist off - and also harder to fill, especially if you're adding drink mix. They're made by Hydropak (even though they say Salomon) and they make the same soft flasks with larger mouths specifically for this purpose. Well worth the upgrade. :)

Good call on upgrading the soft flasks w/ wider mouths for drink mix, etc.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I tried this vest on after 3 or 4 other styles, the main reason I kept this is because it was the only on the fit (kind of). I am not your typical runners build I get that, but thankfully they make vests for us broad shoulder big chest guys who do run. It is snug, but it still does the job. The more I use the more thankful I am I gave it a try.

Most comfy pack I've ever owned.

Best hydration solution for long trail races, marathon and beyond.

+ The fit is amazing, like a piece of clothing - even wearable without an undershirt. No "unseemly" seams.
+ Super light, I barely notice it when it's on.
+ Has lots of great storage options for nutrition and tech.
+ This packed sold me on wearing hydration on the front, as opposed to the back with a bladder, especially for races.

- Price, but technically you get what you pay for.
- Running with fill flasks does feel slightly odd at first - feels like I need more support to keep them from moving about, but you get used to it.
- The flasks sink into the front pockets as you drink from them - you need to dig them out after awhile.
- Doesn't come with a bladder - it's something you may want if you're going to do very long training runs out in the wilderness.

Only the best

Vest super comfortable. Really ultra light. Ideal for any type of training and mountain races. Number of pockets for gels, food, flashlights and other items. Do not sit on the body, soft flask are really very comfortable. Backside for windbreaker, socks and anything that we want to carry. Excellent quality reference price. I am really proud of this purchase !!!
