The uninitiated may look at downhill racers and assume that, aside from a full-face and some body armor, DHers just throw on whatever T-Shirts they have laying around and point downhill. Not so. Good DH-specific apparel dials in just as much technical detailing as that which roadies or XC racers enjoy, and a great example of this is the Royal Racing Long-Sleeve Race Jersey.

The Race jersey is made up of a various mesh polyester fabrics, each engineered for a specific purpose on the rider. Lighter and more breathable side mesh, as opposed to the still-light but tougher torso panels, helps to keep you cool on warmer days, and a pair of wrap-around sleeve vents help in this regard, too. Those same sleeves also host forearm padding to lessen lighter impacts, be them from falling, or branches, or maybe a bird or two. Who knows? You'll be going fast in this thing.

The wide, low-profile neck is Leatt protection-friendly, and the tagless label at the back of it won't drive you nuts or derail your concentration mid-run. The Micro Lycra cuffs are taped for a comfortable and secure fit that won't shift around at speed, and the sublimated graphics won't fade from the sun, washing, impacts, or birds (again with the birds?).

The Royal Racing Long-Sleeve Race Jersey is available in five sizes, from Small to XX-Large, and in three colors schemes: Graphite/chartreuse, Blue/orange, and Black/white.

Here's what others have to say...

great looks, light, fits slightly large

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:Runs large

Fairly cool for a long sleeve, mesh in right places. Long sleeves keep the sun off. Would wash in cold water, as with all my outdoor synthetics.

Great looks - Not durable

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:True to size

These are super sharp looking jerseys. I bought two: one for me and one for my wife in the blue/orange pattern. On the trail, it was fine. However, after the first washing (with hot water), the main front decal/logo was essentially destroyed: it melted into itself. I had to use additional hot water to pull it apart (sort of like stretching out chewing gum) and the logo has many, many micro cracks in it -- much like a t-shirt that is five years old. Very disappointed. My wife's is unworn and will have to hand washed in cold water. Seriously! For a garment designed to be worn in a high power-output (i.e., sweaty) environment. Bummer.

The only thing you should be washing in hot water are bed linens and white undershirts. If you're washing any riding gear, road or mountain, you should NEVER wash it in 'HOT' water. A washing machine is far more of a hostile environment than on the trail for apparel.

Common sense dude.

NEVER wash in HOT water
NEVER put in the DRYER
ALWAYS hang dry
ALWAYS wash wild mild detergent

I have to agree with "Col" on this one. I've used this jersey several times, love the cool air flow, but I would never wash with hot water. Cold wash, mild detergent, delicate cycle, hang dry. Pretty standard for outdoor wear in general.
