For riders, by riders.

Born out of necessity, Royal Racing is the result of riders needing more than 'baggies' or a heavy motocross kit for mountain biking. With gear designed for a specific purpose, like the enduro-focused Drift Shorts, the benefits become immediately obvious.

Supporting this ideology is the Drift shorts' 600D Cordura fabric. Not only is it tough, but Royal Racing also went to great lengths in order to provide as much ventilation as possible. In fact, it took two years for Royal to develop sonic perforations that allow incredible air flow for excellent temperature regulation.

A mesh internal liner also assists in wicking perspiration away from the skin for an increased cooling capacity. And in addition to this, the mesh is also soft against the skin, further reducing friction from the pedal motion. In order to keep the Drift secure during pedaling, the wide, non-pinching waist features hook-and-loop TRP adjusters located at the hips. This prevents bunching at the front when saddled, and also keeps the adjusters from interfering with hydration packs.

Another nice feature for those who frequent trails with multiple water crossings, is a waterproof back panel. And for storage, the Drift Shorts have two hand pockets, one waterproof reverse hip pocket, and one thigh pocket.

The Royal Racing Drift Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to X-Large and in the colors Olive Green/dark green, Ash/black, and Electric Blue.

Well made product but...

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The material is stiff, and the wind blows right up yer knickers. Annoying to say the least; they make that "swishing," sound like bad 70's corduroys whilst one pedals as well. So, good well made shorts, I can see how they may appeal to some, but too bulky and cumbersome for my type of riding which is definitely more on the road side of things...

Pretty awesome

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I really enjoy these shorts. I've ordered a few other pairs from brands like Alpinestars but didn't like the way they fit. These have a good fit, not great but they aren't meant to fit like normal shorts (their waist is true to size but the thighs are tight). They have portions of the short which are elastic/stretchy to allow the heavier bomb proof sections to move freely while you ride. I also like that the back right pocket has a zipper and located off the right hip instead of on your butt.
