Rotor 3D Plus Road Crankset With Q-Rings $910.00
Going against conventional wisdom is never an easy thing to do. After elliptical rings crashed and burned spectacularly in the mid to late '80s, it would take brave souls to bring back the notion. Undaunted by the challenge, the designers at Rotor have successfully convinced any cyclist who cares to give them a chance that there are alternatives to round chain rings. Combining their Q-Rings with the Rotor 3D Plus Road Crankset is a match made in heaven, or Spain.
What the 3D Plus Road Crankset offers is a crankset that will be a perfect complement to a Cervelo R5ca frame while still being completely compatible with any BB30 or traditional bottom bracket. The 3D crank is CNC-machined alloy that uses Rotor's Trinity Drilling System to create three holes drilled end-to-end. Due to the larger axle-crank contact area of a BB30 crank, all three holes can be drilled from the axle side of the crank arm, allowing for further optimization of wall thicknesses, improving both the weight and the weight-rigidity ratio of the crank arm. The 3D design allows them to remove excess or unnecessary material from the core without compromising the crank's strength or stiffness.
By mounting the Q-Rings on the 3D Plus Road Crankset, you're getting the full package as Rotor intended. Far from feeling like you are pedaling squares, as old elliptical rings used to proximate, the Q-Rings smooth out your pedal stroke, optimizing the power and minimizing any dead spots. Rotor quantifies this by explaining that a 53 tooth Q-Ring around the upper dead-spot is equivalent to a 51 tooth, but as the pedal goes down and more strength is applied, the equivalent chainring tooth size reaches 56. This increase in power with the ease of a normal pedal stroke also helps save wear and tear on the knees, which is particularly important if you already have knee issues.
Rotor offers the 3D Plus Road Crankset in a standard, compact and Campagnolo size chainrings. The Rotor 3D Plus Road Crankset with Q-rings is a lightweight, high performance aluminum crank. It is compatible with BB30 frames (68mm BB width), Cervelo BBright specification, and classic threaded frames, using Rotor "BSA30" BB cups.
