Power plus trinity technology in a single package.

We have to hand it to Rotor. While gaining a good chunk of recognition through its Q-Ring design, Rotor continues to develop some of the best componentry across the board through its extensive testing with the world's best cycling teams. This type of rider feedback is integral to the designs of its products, which makes certain that they're built to hold up to the most demanding race situations. This is the mindset that helped initiate the development of the new 3D Plus Power Crankarms, as Rotor took its proven 3D crankarm construction and combined it with some of the most accurate powermeter technology available.

At only 30g heavier than its standard 3D Plus Road Crankset, Rotor's new 3D Plus Power system is one of the lightest powermeter packages available. This is due to the mating of two proven products: Rotor's 3D Plus Cranks and the MEP lab power measurement system by AIP. This 'power' half of the equation is, in fact, made possible through two independent powermeters working together on both sides of the crankset. Eight total strain gauges have been placed within the crankarms, providing a highly accurate individual left and right 'power balance' measurement. In addition to the system being ANT+ compatible, two new ANT+ protocols are measured, including torque efficiency and pedal smoothness. Torque efficiency is shown as a percentage, which measures both clockwise motion (positive) and counterclockwise (negative) movement. This 'negative torque' reading is beneficial in that it shows where you aren't properly de-weighting your leg on the upstroke of the pedal stroke, thus creating dead weight. Furthering pedaling efficiency training, the system also measures pedal smoothness as a reading of your average torque versus your max torque. The power system features conveniently located battery boards on both sides, making it a user-replaceable battery package.

The system is driven by Rotor's proven 3D Plus road cranks. Similar to rest of the 3D line, the 3D Plus road crankarms incorporate Rotor's Trinity Drilling System. On this crank, Rotor drills all three parallel bores from the spindle end rather than alternating the direction of the bores from both ends of the crankarms, as on the 3D Road Cranks. Through this same-end drilling process, Rotor was able to relieve the 3D Plus crankarms of even more excess material, and therefore excess weight, while maintaining the rigidity and strength that you need for competition and training. The CNC machine work and laser-etched graphics give Rotor cranks a distinctly industrial appearance.

The 30mm alloy spindle is sized to work with either BB Right or BB30 standards. Rotor includes the appropriate fittings for both systems. In fact, with the proper Rotor bearing cups (BB30-BSA), the 3D Plus Cranks are compatible with a standard 68mm English-threaded or Italian-threaded bottom bracket shell. In any application, Rotor's clever design and machine work is evidenced by its use of a locking pre-load collar that makes bearing adjustment a breeze once the crankarms are installed and torqued to spec. This pre-load collar is another difference from the standard 3D Road Cranks, as they use a different system to connect it all together.

The Rotor 3D Plus Powermeter Crankarms are available with an anodized Black finish and with a 170, 172.5, or 175mm crankarm length. You're also able to select from two BCD/chainring options -- 110mm for a compact 50/34t setup, or 130mm for a standard 53/39t setup. The alloy Micro Adjust Spider (MAS) provides fine tuning of Rotor's Q-Rings, and it attaches to the splined base of the drive-side crankarm. It is both 10- and 11-speed compatible and is able to be fitted for both Rotor's Q-Rings and round chainrings. Also, this crankset is compatible with any ANT+ compatible head unit.
