Awesome Look

Very sturdy and holds my 30lbs plus bike securely at high speeds. 1 star penalty for the poor rear clamp system. Even the shorter screws did not fit underneath my Whispbar setup. I had to order hardware for the EuroPitchfork in order to be able to use properly on my car. I could have ordered the EuroPitchfork in the first place but I want to be able to use the rack on both slotted and non-slotted rack systems on different cars.

Easy to Install and Solid

I bought this for my '05 Forester. Setup was a cinch and it doesn't interfere with my hatchback. I haven't noticed any extra wind noise when I'm driving around with it on my car with no bike on it. I also bought the Thule Thru-Axle adapter since I'm using this to haul around my mountain bike.

is the tieRod compatiable with Yakinma Whisper bars

Responded on

Yes, this bike mount will work. It will not go into the T Channel but go around the bar

TieRod

Just got my second TieRod for my roadie...was happy w/ the 1st on I got for my mtn bike, thought I would see how I liked it before buying another. Easy to install, locks went in w/o any trouble, rear strap works for mtn and roadie wheels, I have a '11 Outback and they fit on there perfect...I would suggest this model for bars that aren't square, my Outback is kinda oval shaped, fits great. I think the only thing I don't like is the rear mount, I replaced those plastic wing nut things with some longer nuts I picked up @ Lowes...think they look better, plus it makes it so you need a wrench to get it off...

So, to sum things up...I would recommend this to anyone looking for a rack for non-square bars, easy install, works for all bikes (don't need the roadie attachment in the rear like Thule does), cool colors, cheaper than Thule racks...what else do ya need!

Easy and secure

The TieRod fits snugly on my '08 Outback crossbars. It was quick and easy to instal thanks to the great instructions and simple design. This is the first roof rack I've owned, and I wasn't sure how secure the bike would be. All doubts were erased after driving across the country and up the East coast with my ride safely attached the entire trip. The low profile is great, and there is little to no noise, even at interstate speeds. Last, but not least, the colors are pretty swell.

Good on ya!

I really like this rack. It took me about 5 minutes to install and it was super easy. It fit perfectly on my factory roof rack cross bars for my 2001 Subaru Forester. My 2010 Specialized StumpJumper FSR fits on their perfectly with no problem for my disc brakes. Rocky Mounts designed a very nice mount and it looks cool too.

Fits like a glove on the new Foresters

Got the blue TieRod a few weeks ago for the aero cross bars on my new Forester. The install was pretty straight forward and effortless. This rack is super low profile compared to the more classic RockyMounts. I really like the bright color, but I can hardly see it standing at ground level. I've gotten up to 75mph and cant hear any noise. The locking cores work well and fit nicely. Next step is to get the through axel adapter for my DH bike, and possibly another TieRod!

5 Star Mount, but 2 Stars for poor QR lever

I have recently purchased 3 of these mounts--overall, the installation is a snap, and they are hold the bike solidly to the roof (much more solid than my 10 year old Thule mounts). However, I have noticed that there appears to be a design flaw with the quick release. There is a small ring/washer inside the QR that allows for the QR to be locked, if rotated by a lock cylinder. If you don't purchase a lock cylinder, the QR should never lock. During my first road trip with this mount, I did not yet own a lock cylinder. After driving hundreds of miles, I tried to remove my bike, and found the QR to be completely locked (no lock cylinder installed)! I couldn't remove my bike from the car! After yankng on the QR lever as with all my body weight, and the lever wouldn't budge, I decided to investigate further. I popped the plastic cover off that protects the lock cylinder bore, and saw that the aforementioned ring/washer had rotated during travel. I had to insert a screw driver into the lock cylinder bore of the QR, and manually rotate the ring until it released the QR. What a pain! This has happened to me with all 3 QR's that I have purchased. I think I have been able to get around the issue by first, making sure all the ring/washers are in the proper orientation, and then second, installing a lock cylinder. As long as you make sure the washer is not rotated by 180 degrees, the lock cylinder will prevent the washer from "accidentally" rotating and locking the QR lever.I never had any issues with my old Thule mounts.....I think Rock Mounts needs to address this issue. I would say 5 starts for the overall mount, but only 2 stars due to the frustration that the QR lever has caused me. If RM can fix the issue, I would highly recommend.
