What’s wrong with crushed velvet?

It’s bad enough that you have to put your beloved steed on top of your car instead of in a nice crushed velvet cocoon on the passenger seat. The Rocky Mounts Lock Core Pack keeps your ride safe and secure. The cores are compatible with all Rocky Mounts racks, and each pack is keyed alike, so you won’t need a janitor-ring of keys.

Does the trick

The are easy to install and give you peace of mind. No complaints from me.

    Lock As Advertised

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Not much to say on these. It's really easy to install the lock core to your rack, and they lock and unlock reliably. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is I think Rocky Mounts should include them with the purchase of their mounts!

    Easy to install

I needed to replace the cores in a RockyMounts ski rack, it was an easy swap. For those wondering, no these cores do not fit Thule or Yakima.

    Locks that lock

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

No complaints, were easy to install in the different parts of a RockyMounts bike rack, and operate smoothly and solidly.

    Does the job

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I installed a set of these in 2 TieRods without too much trouble. I had seen some questions about if these would work with Thule racks (would be nice, I have a Thule hitch rack), and they look virtually identical to Thule lock cores. I called Rocky Mounts and turns out the locks are made by the same company, but one brand's lock cores are slightly shorter and are likely to get stuck in the rack. Supposedly this is due to the lock maker having a rule against supplying the same lock to two companies.

As noted by mccuden, it is probably not the best idea to use the key to pop out the plastic cover in the racks, I used the allen wrench included with the rack and it worked fine.

Weak keys but still works fine...

Keys are kinda weak, broke one pop'n out the plactic insert where the lock goes on the front fork device. However, replacements are $1, and since you only get 2, I just bought some extras just in case.

Really like that the same key works for all the locks in the pack...I have 2 TieRods, bought a 4-pack of locks, same key opens all 4 locks, means I only have to worry about one key for everything...

Also, going the Rocky Mount path is way less $$$ than Thule...
