RockShox's World Cup products are the peak of SRAM's research and design efforts, featuring race-driven technology and designs. Answering the needs of XC race bikes, the 100mm-travel SID XX World Cup Solo Air 29in with MaxleLite15 tips the scales just a few ounces over 3lbs.

But weight is only one part of the equation that makes a fork race-worthy. Essential to 29ers is stiffness. Longer fork legs, combined with the higher leverage that large wheels generate causes deflection during braking and steering. This equates to handling is inconsistent and disruptive. RockShox solves the flex issue with an integrated, tapered carbon fiber steerer and crown structure, thru-axle, and carbon Power Bulge.

The hollow, one-piece carbon fiber crown and tapered steerer is the World Cup SID chassis' secret to superior strength and stiffness, and it drops a good deal of weight compared to its aluminum counterpart. The crown is bonded to low-friction, anodized 32mm aluminum upper tubes with sag gradients in order to assist in finding the perfect settings. Another detail that makes the SID stiff are the PowerBulges around the lower bushings. These eliminate deformation of the cast-magnesium lowers, ensuring smooth action and less bushing and stanchion wear. Tying it all together is the 15mm Maxle Lite, an easy-to-use quick-release thru-axle that boosts stiffness without adding any significant weight.

The final elements to a race-ready fork are the damping and pre-load systems. For the SID XX World Cup, RockShox specs its XX DNA Motion Control Damper system — the finest that it offers. This system uses RockShox's Dual Flow technology, which features separate circuits for high- and low-speed compression, as well as beginning- and ending-stroke rebound damping. This allows the fork to be sensitive to stutter bumps, while also soaking up bigger hits. So, you're in control, and you're comfortable at all times.

The beginning-stroke rebound is user-adjustable via an aluminum knob that's detented to hold it in pace. It's located at bottom of the right leg, and it contains a short 2.5mm hex key that serves to adjust the pre-load tension on the Maxle's lever throw. The rest of the damping is factory set in order to simplify setup and to ensure optimum performance out of the box. XX Motion Control includes the XLoc remote, which uses a hydraulically-actuated lockout and has an adjustable threshold control.

The XLoc remote button is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and it comes pre-bled, so all that you'll have to do is cinch the aluminum housing onto your handlebar with the included titanium hardware. You're able to install the XLoc with its own clamp, or it's also able to become the top portion of a MatchMaker XX clamp system — mating the lockout, shifter, and brake lever all into one unit. The entire hydraulic system is 60g lighter than the cable operated PushLoc system.

A Solo Air spring is housed in the left leg that's easy to tune, but still provides the low friction of a Dual Air system without the complexity or weight.

The RockShox SID XX World Cup Solo Air 100 29 MaxleLite15 Fork has White lowers, a clear-coated carbon fiber crown, and a 1-1/8in x 1-1/2in tapered steerer. The lower legs have a post-style disc brake mount and are configured for a 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle (included).

Good weight and flows well

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I replaced a rigid fork on my SS with this and man what a difference. All I had to do to get rolling was to cut the steerer tube down a couple inches (just matched the height with the rigid) and get a new, better crown race (cheap). Other than that, the norms - mount the caliper, route the brake cable, and mount the remote lockout. Even with it locked out absorbs more than without it.

Excellent fork

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The fork is great, it is very smooth and the remote lock works perfect.

The kit included an air pump, a service kit of o-rings, two syringes to bleed or replace the oil during service and the compression bolt. The only additional item I had to buy was the crown race.

Customer service from Competitive Cyclist was superb.

very impressed with this fork

been a fox fan for the past few years but after feeling how smooth the 26 version of this was on a friends bike thought I would pull the trigger on a tallboy build. glad I did.

asides from the noticeable low weight the fork is butter smooth. had the chance to christian it in Sedona and that is as good a place as any to see if it was going to work for me. I added a bit more psi that the suggested and the fork is performing perfectly.

so far so good. rock shox is back ( for me )

Light, carbon, pop-lock, thru axle. Yep, this is the best race fork on the market. As with any fork keep a close eye on service.

    Ultimate XC fork

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The SID has been a great fork for me.

I'm a big fan of the weight, stiffness and performance. The XX Loc is a good feature that I didn't think I would use too often, but I am frequently using it and am glad I have it on the bars for convenient access. Stay on top of service and it should give you plenty of trouble free miles
