A few ounces over 3lbs, the SID XX Solo Air 29in certainly is one of the lightest big-wheel forks available, but weight is only part of the equation that makes it race worthy. It actually borrows standards used on burlier Rock Shoxs to ensure the light chassis utilizes its 100mm of travel without compromise.
You'll find an aluminum tapered steerer and hollow forged crown, along with a thru-axle, and Power Bulges residing in this fork -- just like the 120mm Reba. But what the SID has over the Reba is an XLoc remote, and Dual Flow damping.
Dual Flow technology features separate circuits for high- and low-speed compression as well as beginning- and ending-stroke rebound damping. This allows the fork to be sensitive to stutter bumps while soaking up bigger hits, so you're in control and comfortable at all times. The beginning-stroke rebound is user adjustable via an aluminum knob that's detented to hold it in pace.
It's located at bottom of the right leg, and it contains a short 2.5mm hex key which serves to adjust the preload tension on the Maxle's lever throw as well. The rest of the damping is factory set to simplify setup and to ensure optimum performance out of the box. Adding control at demand is the XLoc remote that uses a hydraulically-actuated lockout and has an adjustable threshold control.
The XLoc remote button is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and it comes pre-bled, so all you'll have to do is cinch the aluminum housing onto your handlebar with the included hardware. You can install the XLoc with its own clamp, or it can become the top portion of a MatchMaker XX clamp system -- mating the lockout, shifter, and brake lever all into one unit. The entire hydraulic system is 60g lighter than the cable operated PushLoc system.
The stanchions are low-friction, anodized 32mm aluminum tubes with sag gradients to assist in finding the perfect preload settings. Another detail, mentioned earlier, that helps make the SID stiff are PowerBulges around the lower bushings. These eliminate deformation of the cast-magnesium lowers, ensuring smooth action and less bushing and stanchion wear. Tying it all together is the 15mm Maxle Lite, an easy-to-use quick release thru-axle that boosts stiffness without adding any significant weight.
The SID XX uses a Solo Air spring housed in the left leg -- but don’t let its name make you think this is some friction laden air spring of years past. The Solo Air design lets you add air through a single Schrader valve, filling both positive and negative spring chambers simultaneously, so it's still a dual air chamber design in a much easier setup for the plush, predictable ride RockShox is known for.
The RockShox SID XX Solo Air 100 29in MaxleLite15 has Black lowers and crown with a 1-1/8in to 1.5in tapered steerer. The lower legs have a post-style disc brake mount and are configured for a 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle (included).
