The RockShox SID XX forks are known to be particularly light, and yet that's only part of what makes them a weapon of choice for cross-country racers seeking the podium. The SID platform is also tough enough to be sought by gram-counting trail-rippers, too, so it's an easy go-to for riders seeking an XC-fast fork that they can simply set-and-forget. In the case of The RockShox SID XX Solo Air 100mm 27.5-inch MaxleLite15 fork in particular, you have a fork that checks virtually all the boxes for your short-travel 27.5-inch mountain bike.
On the SID XX Solo Air, you'll find an aluminum tapered steerer and hollow forged crown, along with a 15mm thru-axle, and the famous Power Bulges you can spot on other RockShox forks, such as the Reba. What the SID has over the Reba, however, is notable: an X-Loc handlebar mounted remote control, and Dual Flow damping, both of which help you keep even more precise control of your bike's front end than ever before.
Dual Flow technology features separate circuits for high- and low-speed compression as well as beginning- and ending-stroke rebound damping. This allows the fork to be sensitive to stutter bumps while soaking up bigger hits, so you're in control and comfortable at all times. The beginning-stroke rebound is user adjustable via an aluminum knob that's indented to hold it in place. The Dual Flow damper adjustment is located at bottom of the right leg, and it contains a short 2.5mm hex key that serves to adjust the preload tension on the Maxle's lever throw, as well. The rest of the damping is factory-dialed to simplify setup and to ensure optimum performance out of the box.
Adding control at demand is the X-Loc remote that uses a hydraulically-actuated lockout and has an adjustable threshold control. The X-Loc remote button is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and it comes pre-bled, so all you'll have to do is cinch the aluminum housing onto your handlebar with the included hardware. You can install the X-Loc with its own clamp, or it can become the top portion of a MatchMaker XX clamp system — mating the lockout, shifter, and brake lever all into one unit. The entire hydraulic system is 60g lighter than the cable operated Push-Loc system.
The stanchions are anodized, low-friction 32mm aluminum tubes with sag gradients to assist in finding the perfect preload settings. Another detail, mentioned earlier, that helps make the SID stiff, is PowerBulges around the lower bushings. These eliminate deformation of the cast-magnesium lowers, ensuring smooth action and less bushing and stanchion wear. Tying it all together is the 15mm MaxleLite thru-axle, an easy-to-use quick release system that boosts stiffness without adding any significant weight.
The SID XX uses a Solo Air spring housed in the left leg — but don’t let its name make you think this is some friction laden air spring of years past. The Solo Air design lets you add air through a single Schrader valve, filling both positive and negative spring chambers simultaneously, so it's still a dual air chamber design in a much easier setup for the plush, predictable ride RockShox is known for.
The RockShox SID XX Solo Air 100mm 27.5-inch MaxleLite15 has Black lowers and crown with a 1-1/8in to 1-1/2in tapered steerer tube. The lower legs have a post-style disc brake mount and are configured for a 15mm MaxleLite thru-axle (included). The fork weighs approximate 1605 grams, including the X-Loc remote.
