Flat out speed.

The Pike model has more or less become the target for all-mountain forks, and while it tends to feature upwards of six inches of travel, it also comes in a faster, five-inch model. With 130 millimeters of worm-burning, velocity-inspiring travel, the 27.5-inch RockShox Pike RCT3 Fork 130mm Solo Air throws caution to the wind in favor of pure, unadulterated speed that's ideal for frames like the Santa Cruz 5010 or Juliana Furtado.

The Solo Air fork ditches the adjustability of the Dual Position Air version in favor of a single 130mm travel position. Make no mistake, this thing is built for speed, but it loses some all-mountain capabilities. Compared to the higher travel and flexibility of the Dual Position models, the RCT3 loses the ability to carelessly bomb obstacle-laden downhills. But the lower weight and aggressive power transfer of the Solo Air 130 recommend it for cyclists after pure speed above all else.

That's not to suggest the Pike is as inflexible as a politician during primary season. Its settings can be dialed by the three-position RCT3 switch, which lets you choose discreet amounts of lockout for bigger hits, trail terrain, or cross-country speed. RockShox's Rapid Recovery feature indulges the Pike's terrain-gobbling tendencies by keeping recovery between hits short, so you'll always have that cushion, even during multiple successive bumps.

The axle is designed according to the Maxle Lite technology, which involves alchemy. While we don't understand exactly how they did it, the sorcerers at RockShox took a regular ol' axle and made it both lighter and stiffer. This means it requires fewer watts to move it, and the watts you do send its way are more efficiently transferred to going up. Another great addition is Power Bulge. While we're of a divided opinion about the name, Power Bulge is code for a reinforced lower leg and oversized bushing, which further increases stiffness without increasing stanchion size. The Pike also includes a PSI menu printed on the side, so you don't have to turn to your smartphone to find the proper inflation levels for your weight and the terrain.

Please note that a shock pump is not included with this fork.
